Whats up with GAS in Atlanta?

CNN says some stations are charging $4.99/gallon and most are around $3.50+. Why does Georgia not have a gouging law? If that happened in FL the gas stations would be breaking the law and subject to a $10,000 fine (amount may have changed) for each sale. This is total bullshit. They already had this gas and paid for it at last month's price. Somebody should put a stop to this right now!!

lilspup 08-31-2005 02:25 PM

My girlfriend noticed that on the way home today, sucks.

Welcome to capitalism

You are now paying the same prices most of the rest of the world pays...you wanna blame someone? Call China...

I don't like it either personally but I dislike the government telling me what I can charge or not charge even less...

crockett 08-31-2005 02:28 PM

price gouging

MandyBlake 08-31-2005 02:29 PM

Most states have laws that prohibit price gouging which this is. Why does GA not have such a law? Total BS.

Other countries pay a lot more for gas because of the taxes levied by their country not because oil costs them more. $3.00 gas is a given but $4.99 is price gouging and should be illegal.

detoxed 08-31-2005 02:38 PM

This isnt gouging, this is how much its going to cost for everyone soon, its $2.80 now at gas stations where it was $2.55 4 days ago. I live in northern MS. There were lines at the pumps earlier this afternoon because everyone knows prices will be $3 in no time

tony286 08-31-2005 02:42 PM

if the gas station is charging 4 dollars for something that he paid the wholesale figure for 2.55 a gallon retail thats gouging. Especially when the country is in crisis, it shows you true love of country. Flags and ribbons dont mean shit.

nexcom28 08-31-2005 02:49 PM

A lot of places throughout the world pay a hell of a lot more than you guys do, we are currently paying the equivalent of $8 per gallon..

Yes, please take the over taxation up with your government. :2 cents:

Peaches 08-31-2005 02:54 PM

Drive up north - only $2.79 for regular at the little store up the road in the North GA mountains. :)

Though I have to question the reports - the "expensive" stores up here are $2.99 (Walmart is $2.96) and we are usually 10-20 cents more than in ATL.

And no, it's not gouging.

pawsregd 08-31-2005 02:54 PM

Just saw on Fox that it is now $5.89/gallon in Atlanta

peaches, it is JUST NOW happening...like in the past 3 hours...that site relies on user submissions, and it not up to date hourly, but usually a day or two behind

our gas is $2.45/gallon btw here in tucker

Pornwolf 08-31-2005 03:35 PM

That Caddilac on 26's doesn't seem like such a good idea after all now! LOL

Sosa 08-31-2005 03:43 PM

they are releasing reserves and it will be fixed in two weeks , I think the prices will correct.I also think the media started the panick so it becomes real. I think on anyday if everyone ran to get gas they would run out.

Babagirls 08-31-2005 03:47 PM

in Atlanta, prices are $5.50/gallon (average) according to FOX News becuase the gas stations are running low on gas & dont want sell their gas, so they hiked up the price in hopes of people NOT buying it.

Jace 08-31-2005 03:47 PM

apparently i have a buddy that just stood in line for 45 minutes in downtown atlanta to fill his car up....crazy shit

i am just going to wait til 4am tonight and head down to QT and fill up....i wanna do it tonight though before they raise the prices tomorrow...cause we are hitting the road saturday morning, and who knows what the price will be

Since when is a well under 100% markup price gouging anywhere in the world? Most gas stations make a penny per gallon profit and that's just to cover expenses / drive-offs. At once cent per gallon profit a drive off of 30 gallons would require them to sell another 3000 gallons to break even. The low price is there to get people in the store buying other items.

Actually, it seems that the company that's being shown on the news doesn't WANT to sell and that's why their prices are so high :winkwink:

Nevermind, I see Babagirls already pointed that out :thumbsup

Fact remains, there are plenty of places to buy gas for less than $3 a gallon in ATL and the surrounding areas.

People need to get off the damn couch and stop believing everything the TV tells them. People get all upset and worked up because they sit there and watch the news.

Orgasmics 08-31-2005 03:56 PM

I'm just west of Atlanta and prices are running $3-$5+/gal. All of the gas stations have huge lines and quite a few have even run out of gas. There have also been reports of violence (physical & guns) as people fight for the pumps. Many of our local police are manning the gas stations this afternoon. I haven't even ventured out, I think I'll just hang out at home and let all the panicked people have fun together. People are really losin' it around here.

"Katrina forced operators to close more than a tenth of the country's refining capacity and a quarter of its oil production, which sent gasoline prices surging. Two major pipelines that supply gasoline to key terminals and distribution centers within the eastern U.S. were shut down due to power outages caused by the storm."

Sly 08-31-2005 03:58 PM

Here's a question: if people are so upset about gas, why are they out running around all day? Now I don't believe that people should totally alter their lives and become shut-ins, but come on, there are many ways to cut down on gas usage. Most people waste an ungodly amount of gas simply because they aren't efficient with their daily errands.

cjaccardi 08-31-2005 04:01 PM

OK listen up there is no gas shortage it is only a rumour only reason gas stations are running out of gas is because idiots fell for this rumour and started hording a ton of gas GOV Perdue already made a statement about it and has froze the prices of gas from going any higher.

this is all cause of some internet hoax

Exactly. It looks like the "fake pricing" reported on the news has freaked people out and they are all running to fill up even though they don't need gas, lol! :1orglaugh

You missread what he wrote. He said paid wholesale for gas that sells at $2.55/gallon not paid a wholseale price of $2.55 per gallon.
