Why do people pray to God after a disaster like Hurricane Katrina...?

yes i fell sorry for all the people who lost their lives, homes, jobs, etc but why pray to god when god is the one who caused all this mess. do you really think he gives a fuck? he is probably patting himself on the back right now for a job well done.

Yup, those who died because of the hurricane were not praying hard enough. That'll teach them.

God works in mysterious ways.

the answer is actually simple. Religion gives hope that there is a reason why things go bad in addition that a future after a crisis can be had.

If God's on our side. He'll stop the next war.

Really? So if God is real then he must of hated New Orleans and Mississippi. Why pray to someone who either caused that damage or did nothing about it? Either he is an evil bastard or he just doesn't care.

The same people are praying believe that God has his/her reasons for the way things turned out and are turning for some sense of hope and relief.

Oh man, the contridictions and false beliefs are giving me headaches.

Why not? If someone prays to God, Buddah, Isis, or a rock, who are we to judge how they get peace through troubled times?

I can see people needing to know a reason for something like 9/11, but what sane person looks for the reasoning behind a natural disaster?

Oops, sorry. I just implied the religious are sane. My bad.
