Disposable credit cards launched : is this the end of the Rebill as we know it ??

TSB bank Ireland have become the very first bank in the world to Launch a disposable credit card

You can now go to a store - buy a disposable credit card which comes in the form of a receipt which is preloaded with a set amount of money that you the consumer decides upon at point of purchase

You can use the amount safely online at any store as it generates a credit card number the same as normal credit cards already

Personally what i thought when i heard this was two things - good use of technology but possibly very bad news for rebills on porn for anyone who subscribes to sites via this method

depends on how you retain if its good or bad.

Remember when debit cards first got popular, weren't there some billers who wouldn't accept them even though they had a Visa number? The same goes for "prepaid" credit cards that you buy at the store and can relaod, I thought that some billers were able to block those when they first came out ...??

I may be wrong here, but just wondering, if they are able to do that maybe they will be able to block people with disposable cards from purchasing recurring subscriptions?

Anyway I'm obviously no expert on this stuff, but that would be a good solution if it's at all possible.

Otherwise, yes, it could turn into a big problem.

:2 cents:

the point is if they purchase via a disposable credit card that has only $50 on it - you CANT rebill them as the number wouldnt be the same on the next time they join IF they join again

so the two or three months of rebills will drop off ( the stupidity rebills )

Then one should have a kick-ass site to which they voluntarily get a new subscription when the first ends.. not trick them to have another month before they remember to cancel. :)

how you retain has little to do with it.

beemk 08-31-2005 12:04 AM

btw, they already have these in the usa at drug stores.

ThePornPusher 08-31-2005 12:05 AM

Visa already does this.

and there is the point - that shitty sites with this method of purchasing will no longer be getting those rebills .. maybe it will clean out some of the poorer sites a bit but those extra rebills for some business's are essential as affiliates sometimes work on revenue share rather than direct once off payments

It could see the once off payments for affiliates drop and see revenue sharing drop altogether on cash programs

Simply don't accept the disposible cards for signing up.. they have to make a way for it to be known to merchants / online merchants..

What about the prepaid porn card. There was an article in Clixxx last month or the month before about it.

potter 08-31-2005 12:37 AM

Yeah, I don't think merchants will accept them. The processing will be able to tell if it's one of these types of cards and reject it.

P.S. Frank, jump on aim real quick!
