Scientists Make Mice Regrow Limbs, Organs

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...E29677,00.html

This story, if true, and it appears to be so, is the turning point I've been waiting for.

This technology applied could solve so many ills that plague mankind I can't even begin to list them.

that'd be cool :)
loss of limb is one of my bigtgest fears...
next to cancer of course ;)

This is an OLD story. I wonder why we haven't heard more?

There's really nothing impossible in our technology today...

reynold 08-31-2005 02:15 AM

great discovery. :thumbsup

Pretty good news if you're a mouse I guess, except that the bastards who helped you grow back your limb were the same ones that cut it off in the first place (interesting metaphor for corporate science).

If this technology becomes available to humans you can bet there will be a rise in amputations, deliberate and accidental.

...and how long will it be before it is fashionable to add extra fingers, or literally grow eyes in the back of your head?

It's a Brave New World Order...

Ya know Years and years ago I was walking down the 16th street mall in Denver on a Sunday afternoon and a woman stopped me and said she liked my t-shirt. I had on a bar shirt from Big City Lights in Lakewood (wonder if thats still there lol). Anyway, I thought it was cool that a probably 60 year old woman would like a rock and roll tshirt. Anyway, we got to talking and she invited me to a nearby Mickey D's for coffee. Turns out she was some kind of research scientist at DU (University of Denver) and after telling her about losing all of my toes to a lawn mower, she said that in a generation or less scientists would have the technology to replace lost limbs and such. Guess she was right.

If they were able to do that to a mice, it's not impossible to do that to humans as well.

Exactly!

I expect more news on this type of research very soon. Stem Cell research has exploded. The reason is because so much money is being tossed at it. Unlike cancer research where 99% of the money tossed at it goes to administration.

We can solve any problem as long as we WANT to have the problem solved.

Ace-wtf 08-31-2005 06:18 AM

there are researches who say our generation will reach 300 years old with the technilogy

Ace-imlive, glad to see someone on top of the story. You're correct. I covered the longevity technologies for a magazine I workde dfor. The advances are astounding. In brief, a kid born today we have no fucking idea how long it will live. With naono technology and stem cell research it's off the boards. As for us folks alive today we just don't know how long we can live! It's rapidly moving to a state wihere within 5 to ten years on the outside the public will have access to these technologies. they exist now but won't be in the hands of the average person.

Reson for that is no one wants a 500 year old Charles Manson or 400 year old George W. Bush.

If the good get to live forever, the bad do too or the ACLU will go ballistic.

LittleSassy 08-31-2005 10:53 AM

that's an amazing discovery....

There is still no hope for most of you :2 cents:

come on man, some of what your saying is true but it would do more good than evil,i really dont think the people that have the technology to this procedure would get freaky with it,i.e. extra eyes and limbs... cloning however is another story..
