This one guy from NO on Seattles King5 news has had me in tears 3 times today...
He's telling the story of his wife who died in the hurricane. He had her by the hand and held on as tight as he could. Then she said "You can't hold me no more. Take care of the kids and take care of our grandkids" and it shows his two kids there with him. I'd estimate about 10 and maybe 7...
I mean you can see the devestation and feel terrible but I know when things like this happens, the individual stories absolutely kill me. The guy just kept saying over and over "That's all I had that's all I had" :( Prayers for Billy too who has to fuck around with looters right now.... We all need to step back and quit bitching about our own problems that's for sure. |
very sad story. I'm sure there are tons of people that went through the same thing.
|
I saw that same story.... was on CNN a lot. If you look closely you can see the reporter wipe a tear from her eye as well during the interview.
|
Have you seen the full video......?
The reporter was sobbing so bad she couldnt finish it. He is on his way to being the face of the hurricane I think. Every disaster seems to have one. |
What a horrible situation.... there is really no silver lining in any of this
my heart goes out to all affected.... :( |
thats so sad ,its a terrible tragedy
|
indeed, it is easy to look from a distant eye and say "shit happens", but when you are presented with the up close and personal, individual real life stories and specifics, there is no way you can just be passive about the whole thing...
|
This isn't near being over. There were entire towns wiped out and we'll
be hearing about thousands dead in a few days. |
Ummm, if my wife and my two kids lived there and knew a hurricane was coming, I'd fucking leave before it hit. This story angers me because they stayed.

Well even if I only had a dime to my name and no legs or arms, I still roll my torso down the fucking road and bring my wife and kids with me. Plus you assume they're poor and/or disabled, why is that?
|
Major cities obviously have their fair share of poverty. Some people just didn't understand, with a natural disaster you can't always evacuate everyone.
|
there are lots of people that are suffering there that needs everbodys help and prayers.

I don't buy that.. They always offer ways for people to get out. If the people really wanted to leave they would have been taken out by the police or social services. I feel for the people who died but I don't have a lot of symphony them because they stayed after they were told to leave. I'm sorry but they knew it was going to be one of the biggest storms in the US history. They knew there would be mass flooding and wind damage. So anyone who stayed was a dumb fool IMO. I saw the guys story and it was sad, but you know what that sad story could have been prevented if they would have left. I've been in a few of these storms myself and I have stayed at home for a few and there is no way in hell I would have stayed at home for that one especially knowing that the whole area was under sea level. Look at all the rescue workers that are risking their lives to get these hard headed morons. I can understand staying in a storm like I said I've done it myself. But no way in hell would I ever try and stick it out in a storm like that. |
a tank of gas could have saved her life. GET THE FUCK TO A NATIONAL PARK UNTIL THE HURRICANE IS OVER. You had a week to do it.
|
Also for the others saying that the US doesn't need any aide. I'm sure we will get through it like we always have but this is much bigger than most people seem to think. They were just talking about it on CNN.
This has effectively put a million people out of work and homeless. Could your country handle that? You think the govt is just going to put them all on welfare and set them up in a styling FEMA trailer somewhere? Even if somehow the govt did this do you have any idea how long something like that will take? This is an entire major city that just got closed for who knows how long.. Then add in all the other small cities and towns that are in the same position throughout the area. So Kaiser Sosa You think your country could handle it your selfs if Amsterdam was shut down tomorrow and everyone there had nothing but the shirts on their back? Think you guys wouldn't be asking for any help? You think America wouldn't be sending you donations? |
I saw that video too on cnn.com, truly heartbreaking.

btw have you even been in a hurricane? I've been though several and I know first hand that if you do not have transportation then there are always free services. I'm not in any way saying that I have no "sympathy" for the people affected by this storm. I know what it's like first hand and it sucks and I feel for the people that have lost everything. However people that chose to stay in the areas they knew would be affected the most by flooding and so on, well that's a different story. btw let me know if I misspelled anything else.. |

I dont need to share my experiences to feel sympathy for others. I also will not waste my time with obvious immature simpletons such as yourself. |
I saw it on the news last night too, couldnt finish watching the interview.
|
i saw it, one think I couldn't get past was the kids were just standing there unphased about the whole situation while the dad was crying. if my mom, or grandmom died when i was that young, I'm pretty sure i'd be upset.

This thing turned into a category 4 over night (basically 2 days of real warning) usually hurricanes have a steady path with a steady category which can give up to 5 days of warning. There just wasn't enough time to get everyone out. |

I had to go watch my grandma unexpectedly choker her last breath and then go straight from there to my sons 8th birthday party... We carried on with the party and tried to make the best out of it. His feelings came to the surface much later and in a much different form than the rest of us. I highly doubt those kids are unphased. |
I saw/heard that as well :( :(
Terrible. :Oh crap |
that's just so sad.....all we have is each other. its a shame that some people is making this situation a lot more worst....:(
|
Yeah, that guy's story has had people in tears all across the world it sounds like. Any of youse guys in Hollywood in the Los Feliz section and know Pauli "Walls" who hangs out at the 7-11 well we ain't seen him in days. Best bet is he's on his way back to N'Orleans to rescue his mom. Everybody knows Paul. He's like a celebrity in his own right.
|
As soon as the news reporter started to cry I started too and my sister as well...When she asked him "where is your wife?" and he replies "She gone!!!" That was it the reporter lost it and so did I!!!
But it is true that although many have no way of leaving, some have ample time and options but still stay. I just can't understand that. |
I just watched it. Took a bit for me to get back my composure, had someone in my office for a meeting when we both watched it. :(
|
Thanks for the awesome post, Rred. Here I am stressing about conversions, traffic flow, etc etc and I read your post and it really put a lot of perspective in my day.
|
Can't predict how we'll act or react to this kind of devastation. For some, survival kicks in and for others, bewilderment and a sense of being lost....very sad to live what seems like a normal existence..and, within a few days, have your life changed forever in a very traumatic way.
|
Everytime they play the tape of that man over here I want to tear my heart out. I have a slight idea of his pain but I can't even imagine what it would have been like to watch your partner die in that way. A 'normal' way is bad enough.
