Over 1 Million Homeless Now in Louisiana Alone.

Over 1 Million Homeless Now in Louisiana Alone.

Only to get worse.. Perhaps the worst Natural Disaster to hit the US ever by the time this is done..

Some of the DirectNic crew are there still in the middle of it.

Been reading the Blog. http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/

Hard to swallow. This is much much bigger than most of us imagined.

Huge devistation. Disease and destruction yet to meet its peak.

MSNBC has been doing a great job covering this..

Its disturbing to go to FOX news and see them talking about Democrats and Republicans, Foriegn Gas, and Beruit while the MSNBC's and CNN's are in the heart of this.

Fox is covering this, and doing a good job dont get me wrong. But they really havent taken the time off to get some political jabs and propaganda in there even during these times..

Watch it and you'll see what im talking about.. Its good, but there are these strange hints and mixes. Turning this all into a debate.

KRL 08-30-2005 10:31 PM

Homeland Security just said they are going to bring in a whole bunch of cruise ships to provide shelter for as many as they can for now.

boneprone 08-30-2005 10:31 PM

Whats really distrubing is that there is another tropical storm forming deep out of the gulf...

I dont think these areas could take another hit.

It would literally finish them off.

Nysus 08-30-2005 10:31 PM

There are hundreads of millions / billions considered homeless in the world.. Sad that they have to lose their homes and likely all of their possessions though; at least they owned things before. And please no one think I'm an uncaring asshole, I just like to keep things in perspective with the rest of the world.

This happens in Richmond every few years, just earlier this year large portions of richmond were under water, & 30-40 people died.

We rebuild & we carry on. Its human nature.

Yeah they were discussing the idea and hinting it throughout most of the evening. The governor was hinting it and wanted FEMA to talk to some liners to make this happen..

Good to hear that there is progress with this..

I wonder how it will work. They just pull in to the coastline and people walk and swim on over?

Yep you guys had it bad as well earlier in the year no doubt. But the scale here is much larger. Much more distruction. Water aside just the damage that has already been done, along with the potential to come is far greater scale. A huge vast region.

To simply say they will rebuild and carry on is true. They will have to. But the destruction is vast and severe. There are tons of people still stranded, and the potential disease to come will be serious..

The homeless level will be shocking to say the least.

There will be refugee camps upon refugee camps to come. Thousands in need of help and over a million homeless. Jobs gone and destroyed. Public health non-existant..

www.redcross.org donate.

Dont in your mind convince yourself that people will simply just carry on.

Help is and will be needed.

GREATER than you think.

The Cable shows all have themes each hour they stick to. Fox has their financial hour at 4 PM, their commentary at 5 PM, GOP vs. Dems at 6 PM and crime at 7 PM etc.

MSNBC has had their nut jobs on as well. Chris Mathews yesterday called the Gulf Coast the "Red Neck Riveria" and CNN had on Carville blaming Bush for the hurricane !

reynold 08-30-2005 11:31 PM

very heart-breaking moment to all.

There was some footage earlier where Katrina had lifted/moved the whole building that was a casino and shunted it along the plot a bit. Amazing and sad stuff for all caught up in this crap - buildings can be replaced, people and families can't.

boneprone 08-31-2005 12:07 AM

Yeah I saw that..

Amazing.

Because Carvell owns land there and knows what he is talking about.

Bush has DIRECTLY denied funds that new Orlereans has needed and been asking for for a long time.

Quote:

In early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness.

On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us."
Anyone who owns land there and knows about this situation, knows Bush has been denying these funds for YEARS.

Carvell knows this.
