Tuesday, August 30, 2005; Posted: 1:08 p.m. EDT (17:08 GMT) "We have got a lot of work to do," Bush said, referring to the damage wrought by the hurricane along Gulf Coast areas. The president had been scheduled to return to the nation's capital on Friday, after spending more than four weeks operating from his ranch in Central Texas. But after receiving a briefing early Tuesday on the devastation Katrina unleashed, the president decided that he needed to be in Washington to personally oversee the federal effort, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. The president said that the urgent need for search-and-rescue operations put the priority on saving lives -- and made it necessary for people who evacuated the region to stay out for now. "This morning, our hearts and prayers are with our fellow citizens along the Gulf Coast," Bush told Navy sailors and World War II veterans, the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier at his back. "We know that many are anxious to return to their homes. It's not possible at this moment." Instead, he asked all in the affected areas to do as state and local authorities say. "The federal, state and local governments are working together side-by-side to help people get back on their feet," he said. The president asked individual Americans to get involved with the relief effort, suggesting anyone who wishes to help could call 1-800-HELPNOW, log on to the Red Cross Web siteexternal link or get in touch with the Salvation Army. "The good folks in Louisiana and Mississippi and Alabama and other affected areas are going to need the help and compassion and prayers of our fellow citizens," Bush said. Upon Bush's return Wednesday, he planned to chair a meet of a White House task force set up to coordinate the federal response and relief effort, McClellan said. "This is one of the most devastating storms in our nation's history. I think that's becoming clear to everyone," McClellan said. "The destruction and loss of life is sobering." |

Also BEFORE this disaster occured he declared states of emergency and held an emergency teleconference for planning on recovery. He has done all a leader can do at this time so fuck you and your fucking weak ass progam - one I wont ever promote btw. Sell it to Michael Moore. |
He'll be all over the news the next three days and you'll be saying what the fuck is Bush doing all over the news !
|
as i said in another thread on this subject: the secret service needs time to go in and secure the area for him...They controll his schedule, bush himself would most likely wanted to be standing in the middle of the hurricane while it was heppening..he's a publicity hound like that!

Im simply commenting on the FACT, that the president chose today to do a world war 2 memorial service, to compare the war today to world war 2.... while new orleans is in shambles, and people are stranded out on highway 10. thanks for those kind words about my program by the way. :) Its good to see theire is so much love between us webmasters :) |
My mother is a staunch Republican and she even said she turns the channel now and gets nautious when he comes on with another clueless speech about Iraq.

I don't like Bush but to be fair the governor of LA requested that he didn't visit Wednesday or Thursday cause they had more pressing things to do.

Its funny. Ill defend the president in one thread and Ill criticize some of his decisions in another, and i get shit from both the left and the right..... its funny how one comment on GFY, can make people think, that your on one side or the other. I just think it was odd, that he did that memorial service today, when there is a sate of emergency in new orleans.... I guess, to some people, he can do no wrong. |
I must not say anything political on gfy,
I must not say anything political on gfy, I must not say anything political on gfy, I must not say anything political on gfy, I thought i learned my lesson..... hahaha.... Its like song.... you say something political, and people hear what they want out of it. |
