My thoughts on why the sig market is dead:

Because board owners started placing ads in the "content" areas of the board. Such as under peoples names when they post, etc. From the numbers I've seen this has reduced the effectiveness and clicks on sigs by at least 50% over the last year or two.

BusterBunny 08-30-2005 04:19 PM

so you are saying im a lil too late to sell my spot? damn im always late to the party

StuartD 08-30-2005 04:20 PM

nah, it just died out for the same reason that all other fads do.

too late to sell it for any good money. Several months in a row I got $500+ a few years ago.. stopped selling soon after and the market turned to shit

I dont think an effective marketing campaign is a fad. The numbers died down, which caused the buyers to stop or significantly lower prices. Less clicks = less effective campaigns = less people that can do a profitable sig campaign

Spunky 08-30-2005 04:23 PM

Perhaps for some people it has died off, but it has been over saturated with people willing to sell it for 50 bucks that sort of ruined it

GFY doesnt do that unless the board is skinned and the GFY sig market is still dead.

Yeah thats a part of it but most of those are overpriced anyway. 1 good person is way better than 5-6 no names who have done nothing and made no money on their own.

Yes the board has been skinned a lot lately :)

polish_aristocrat 08-30-2005 04:25 PM

TCG ppl still have the best sig deals i'd say, and some of them post just BS

Yeah that might be a good deal for some people, but I used to get $1+ per post :) and what I'm willing to accept keeps going up

Jace 08-30-2005 04:27 PM

i don't know why you think it is dead...if you are a valuable member with solid posts, you still get a good amount each month for sigs...when I sell mine, i don't ever get less than $350 a month, usually higher though...the price I sell for depends on how much alcohol is needed to restock the bar on my back porch

right now i just need some toons done, so whoever jumps on that is getting a sweet deal for sure

JFK 08-30-2005 04:57 PM

I 100% agree. Sure most people arent getting the Inflated prices they would have at one time . I recall some of the sig threads people were boasting af thousands per month. I don't doubt some *very few* people did get that much but most people get a few hundred maybe more depending on the deal.
:2 cents: :thumbsup

bhutocracy 08-30-2005 05:12 PM

So how much are sigs worth these days?

Donny 08-30-2005 05:14 PM

In the case of GFY, what does Lensman get from sigs? Nothing. So why would he care if you don't like him putting in adverts from paid sponsors?

DaddyHalbucks 08-30-2005 05:15 PM

Another factor could be the maturation of the online adult industry.

Once upon a time, there were only a few webmaster boards, now it seems like every adult company promotes one.

2 things...

Market is NOT dead....

and the ads underneath the names have been there before the sig craze...

Thomas1007 08-30-2005 05:20 PM

sig spots are still a good source for sponsors IMHO.
Buying a few sig spots and having thousands of pageviews to each thread in the end is still good marketing value for the dollar. The larger sponsors realize this, hence they continually buys sigs each month.

This thread has nothing to do with whether or not Lensman cares about the sig market. And I never said I didnt like him doing it. I said what effect it had on the market based on NUMBERS or the past few years.

cayne 08-30-2005 05:28 PM

Yeah I miss the gold days, where Sleazy sold his sig for 12,5k/month :/

Yeah, but think 1-1,5 years back. Even newbies were getting 30-100$ and ppl with more than 5k, def. ~500$ (of course it depends on the person and daily posting amount) and a lot ppl got 1k+ for their sig. Nowaday I would guess that only ~10 ppl get more than 1k for their sig...but I might be wrong...

I would say way less get $1k for their sig today. Maybe 1-4.

brand0n 08-30-2005 05:38 PM

sponsors are looking for a ROI on sigs. branding only works out so much with some people.

if you can produce solid deals, contacts, webmasters, or traffic to the program in your sig then it is worth the sponsors to buy it.. and even renew.

alot of people think that they have a big ass post count and that should be enuff to sell it. thats not the fact.

Juicy D. Links 08-30-2005 05:39 PM

I am booked till March 2006 .

Being serious.

Patrick_Bateman 08-30-2005 05:39 PM

Juicy D. Links 08-30-2005 05:40 PM

exactly, my post #1 was saying the addition of more advertising hurt sig campaigns roi

SleazyDream 08-30-2005 05:50 PM

i've been turning down a lot of offers but i think i may book sept and oct

Doctor Dre 08-30-2005 05:58 PM

I've made good money from the sig market over the last year and a half (maybe a bit more ...) . I still do ... It's not really dead ... it's just that too many newbs tried to get in and started whoring the hell out of themselves.

pornguy 08-30-2005 06:01 PM

The sig market slowed down, because a lot og people were jumping into the threads saying Hi, and expecthing to get paid.

You need to post, say something have others read it, and see the sig. Not shoot right by because they know you are just trying to make a buck.

Yep . But I think right now it's more about branding then other things ... having your name out there in every thread can't be a bad thing ;)

body 08-31-2005 09:54 AM

why should the market be dead? I click more on sigs than on any banner here on top or bottom!

body 08-31-2005 09:56 AM

if a member reads the post carefully or is interested in reading them, sigs get their attention, if a member just post bs and don't read it the sig brings nothing
