Does such a thing exist? Where I can have the computer on one side of the room and the monitor on the other without having to run a long cord?

Yes it does exist. I remember reading an article about it not to long ago. That was more of a "close/remote" solution (like with a keyboard), but I am sure there are stuff for larger distances aswell.
