ibill reports us to the fbi once a month

i did not know this about ibill . i called them today regarding there constant problems with cmi and i was asking my rep. all kinds of ? one ? was when do they think they will have this problem solved with cmi they said most likely 2 weeks but be prepared for a month. the the other ? was regarding the donation for the child fund witch i have no problem with just wanted to know if the box should be prechecked. they told me that was not going to change and it was to my best benifit becuase they turn a list of all adult sites into the fbi on a monthly bases that they proccess for. thought that was pretty interesting i had never heard that before. the other ? was regarding the new box of terms on the page i said to them know that you made the box bigger and very noticable would that cut down on refunds from people that claim they did not know they were gonna get rebilled in 5 days .they said nooo so i say why the fuck make it bigger if it does not fucking matter i really am starting to think they do not want adult web masters.

[Labret] 02-14-2002 11:55 PM

I find that very disturbing.

Is it just a list of URL's or all client information?

Fire 02-14-2002 11:57 PM

So J. Edgar Hoover still has his fingers in everyone's business???

buster 02-15-2002 12:12 AM

im not sure if its our info or just urls has anyone ever heard of this practice is it with all billing co.?

[Labret] 02-15-2002 12:18 AM

KimmyKim, does CCBill report webmaster info to the Feds?

Theo 02-15-2002 12:21 AM

Never heard of such thing. I don't like this 3 word organization that is responsible for various reasons, but it doesn't sound bad. We bitch about online crimes all the time, this kind of monitoring can pretend many of them. So it's not that bad. Ibill seems to process CCs at full speed now without any problem. Something tells me that will take couple of months to see people complaining again (which happens with everything).

[Labret] 02-15-2002 12:24 AM

You are in Greece, why the hell would you care?

bhutocracy 02-15-2002 12:27 AM

hehehehheh yeah right..

nice try at creating the illusion of guilt ibill...
i wonder if they take a cut of the processing fee for the charity.

like some FBI geek is going to be sifting through the url's and take the lack of a donation box as proof you're in need of investigation - or anything else that can be derived from an all encompassing term like "best interests"
give me a break.. tell him to smoke cock. so fucking what if some FBI dude has his expectations of a PORNOGRAPHY MERCHANT lowered a little.. it's not a fucking criminal offence..
don't be bullied.. go elsewhere

quiet 02-15-2002 12:33 AM

damn that's fucked up.

@ buster

Are only pay sites they process for reported to the FBI, or are the affiliates of these sites reported to the FBI, too???

Thanks for answering!

codecrawler 02-15-2002 07:00 AM

I am wondering if that by itself is legal under US law?

I mean I know Dutch law has some differences but over here it would be, because information of companies that are not accused of anything, and have given no real cause for suspicion.

Have their info turned over to a law and government organisation.

Should a Dutch company do that we would have grounds to file a case against them.

Wondering if US law works teh same way?

CC

tradermcduck 02-15-2002 07:10 AM

@ TeenGodFather

Definitely nothing to hide here :-)

But I find it strange that Ibill reports their customers to the FBI!

What's your opinion concerning this issue?

Ludedude 02-15-2002 09:50 AM

HAHAH....another fucking beauty.

They'll never give you details about what they report to the FBI. I'm fucking amazed that one of their reps actually said that to you...I bet if his/her name got out, they'd lose their job.

It doesn't matter if you have something to hide or not, the breech in privacy is unacceptable. We don't live in a police state...or do we?

wrong movies ;) next time see "and justice for all" :)

Maximus 02-15-2002 11:07 AM

hey buster,

Maybe this will help.

Im not sure if they are giving the list to the FBI but I would almost gaurantee they are giving it to there acquiring bank and Visa.

Last week aggregators like ourselves received notice that all sites have got to be reviewed by acquirers and visa. We now have to send all sites to be okd by our bank. Just a formality really to assure not TMF'd accounts hide under the aggregator sheild.

Also we received notice to contact the FBI in the event child porn sites were discovered. They gave us numbers and names of detectives to contact. Perhaps the message you received was a mix of both.

IBILL Looks like it is going down the tubes with most people...

sad, they have been around a long time.

oh well, they can join DMR in the hole ;)

Timothy 02-15-2002 11:32 AM

Oh no.
I'm afraid if it's true. If this is just a rumor, Kimmy must join this thread..... Is this means we were reported from both ibill and ccbill?

Amputate Your Head 02-15-2002 11:39 AM

The lesson here is never never ever give out information that you DON'T want the world to know. If you seriously want to protect your identity, there are ways to do it, but it requires proper filtering and that means some work on your part. If you give out your name and address to someone.... ANYONE... expect that it is no longer private. Privacy policies are nice and they make us feel good.... but if you want true security, trust no one. :eek7

The Other Steve 02-15-2002 12:56 PM

Why worry about Ibill - if the FBI or any other body like that wants to start checking on adult webmasters all they have to do is come to the adult boards.

Most of us give out all sorts of personal info on these boards and they're open to everyone to read.

If people can harvest our email addresses off boards like this then there is nothing to stop them getting other information as well.:2 cents:

Brad Mitchell 02-15-2002 01:44 PM

Can someone post a link to one of these IBILL signup pages with a charity donation piece?? Thanks!!!

Brad

NETbilling 02-15-2002 01:56 PM

Guys,

I'm sure Ibill will do just fine. Unlike some of the previous thrid party processors that went under, Ibill is strong financially and has a huge customer base including many mainstream merchant s as well. They have been doing this for a long time.

That's the freaking plumbers trying to get into the house Gary. Open the door and let them in. ;)

Labret, I'm not sure why we would report anyone to the FBI.

Since we also are Cavecreek webhosting, we have the Customs agent assigned to cp in our office about once a month. We go thru any sites that have received complaints about content, either for Cavecreek or CCBill, and get her opinion on them. She's been doing this for years with us, and as far as we are concerned it's a good thing.

For some time now, Customs and the FBI have been fighting over jurisdiction of cp, perhaps IBill has the same sort of arrangement with an FBI agent that we do.

I can't honestly think of any other reason they would be talking to them, unless it's about fraudulent sites -- ie people with stolen cc's coming in, etc. We've had to report a few people over the years for stuff like that, but not our entire client list by any means.
