I just saw a video of outside of the superdome. I must say it's the first time ever I've seen a few hundred black people with wet hair. You just don't see that shit!

The most negative reaction I got came from an African-American friend (who had been permed most her life) who told me that my wet hair looked horrible and that I needed to hurry up and fix that. It was at that point I realized that we (Black people) do not play a small part in perpetuating this nonsense about our hair being ugly. It wasn't my white friends who had a problem with my natural hair, but my black ones....."

Did I have to clarify? Black people with REAL hair that isn't shaved. I dunno maybe I dreamed about going to school with hundreds of them, knowing that the ones with long hair get in the water with shower caps on, and being told by them specifically why that is so.

You see, they usually have hundreds of dollars of treatments in their hair that come out when it gets wet. It also goes to it's natural state which is an afro. I didn't know it needed explanation as it's not some big ass secret.

I agree completly. Most black people's hair is different to white peoples hair and they hate for it to get wet and it's also true that a lot (but not all) black people cannot swim.

what he says IS true, black swimmers are always slower than causcasian ones and this has to do with the bone density in their head: black skulls weigh more than white skulls, so they have to do more effort in keeping their head up in swimming competition, resulting in a lower speed.
This fact is being used in the identification of human remains to determine if it was a white or black person (including the pronation of teeth,..)

I never knew the scientific explanation, just that all my black friends stay in the wading section.... with shower caps on.

and i must point out that in USMC boot camp, the 6 brothaz in our platoon, all 6 of them failed the swim course and were dropped back into training for a couple of weeks due to it.... that's not racist, just stating a statistical fact i witnessed.

The ones I know are deathly afraid of water as well.

When I was in Navy bootcamp, there were obviously a small percentage of black people there...But I swear that 97% of all of the people who were in "remedial" swimming, a class that you had to pass before you could finish, were black. I was shocked. The biggest part was that black folks aren't going to jump off of that high ass tower into the pool. They had that to simulate having to jump off the edge of the ship.

I passed but I was one of the few black people who passed the swim test on the first try...Even then I was terrified.
