That lens is about 2000 euros here in Germany. One intense lens though, with image stabilizer.

Sorry, I was thinking...

Objektiv EF 70-200mm 1:2,8L IS USM

it is about 2000 euros.

The EF 300mm 1:4L IS USM is about 1300 euros...

Gungadin 08-29-2005 08:04 AM

The Canon IS glass is amazing... but bring your wallet!

Paul&John 08-29-2005 08:07 AM

pussyluver 08-29-2005 08:09 AM

They only have hundreds to choose from. Like the EF or EF-s when it comes to the 20D.

So can spend a lot or really drop some cash.

Cory W 08-29-2005 09:05 AM

With IS:

Without IS it is reasonable.

If you come to a show you can snap mine on and see if you like it.

It's not that superior with all the chromatic abbreation (purple fringe, the pink/purple highlights on the white spots) going on in some of those shots, more specifically, some of the surfering shots.

I noticed a great jump in optic quality when i went from my 70-300 to my 70-200 2.8.

That should be your next lens IMO.

The 2.8 is the key.

I just want to get a bigger zoom at some point.

What did that run you?

2.8 isn't the key, but it helps, the lens quality is just 10x better quality than the normal tele-zoom.

You can always go bigger by getting extension tubes, or teleconverters, saves you money, and you don't lose that much quality from it.

Unless your shooting NFL games, I don't see the need for anything over 300mm. I stopped using my 70-300, 200mm is enough for me right now.

As far as price, i shoot nikon, so I got the 70-200 VR 2.8 AF-S ED. Ran about 1600 US market, not gray market (about 200 cheaper but warranty is in japan).

Every lense has its place. 2.8 is essential for a lot of things. 400 range is great for a lot of purposes, including surfing shots depending on the break layout. Bigger zooms are great for perception shots that require it, etc. Just my opinion though.

mackey 08-29-2005 09:48 AM

400 isn't gonna get that much more depth over a 200, just closer. I'd rather buy a 2x teleconverter for 300 bucks, rather than a 400mm lens for like, god, probably well over 2k.

Haha..
I see your point though, time to buy one of those waterproof camera boxes and get closer ;)

Oh man..I wish you would not have said that :) I want to water proof is so damn bad. I am a surfer, so I would be very comfortable shooting out in the breaks.

Man, those damn things are expensive though!

I used to see them on ebay for around the same price as a body...

this company makes one for 1200, but i'm not a fish, not even close, never surfed, shit, i've rarely even seen surfing in person before (only a couple times) so something like this is simply useless to me...

That price isn't bad considering what you "should" be able to do with it.

I just wonder how it works?
