The Hypocrisy of Christianity...

Why is it that so many christians are so hypocritical? Let's start with the basics of being a "Christian" the foundation of it all, the so called "laws" laid down to them by their God... The 10 commandments...

#1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Ok, now which is it, is God your God, or is Jesus your God? You seem to worship both, but you are only allowed to have one, and it ain't Jesus. So why do I see so many bumper stickers that say "Jesus is Lord"... is he lord? or is God?

#2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

This means that images of any thing in heaven and earth are prohibited... It is very difficult to find a church in that does not display some object which is a likeness of a crucifix, dove, host, cross, burning bush, a saint, the Holy Family or some other entity found in heaven or earth. Another sin is to place a painting of Jesus on the wall of a home or church.

#3 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Today, it is often mistakenly interpreted as prohibiting swearing. This has nothing to do with its original meaning

#4 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Now this one really cracks me up. The sabbath is Saturday people! Unless you are a Seventh Day Adventist, you have totally fucked this one up.

#5 Honour thy father and thy mother

Ok, this one you can have.

#6 Thou shalt not kill.

Didn't Pat Robertson just suggest an assasination??? hmmmm.

#7 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

You know who you are... bad Christian... Bad.

#8 Thou shalt not steal.

Again, you know who you are...

#9 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour

I guess this must be why President Bush would only testify if he wasn't sworn in.

#10 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's

Apparently there are no Christians in Los Angeles.

So, this is what I don't get, you have 10 simple easy to follow rules and yet you can't even get them right. You have created a religion to suit your needs, and called it something that it is definitely not.

You believe in God, but you don't believe in his laws? I don't get it.

tony286 08-28-2005 03:21 PM

you have strong points , religion was created by man to control the people.

Sly 08-28-2005 03:23 PM

Why point out the hypocrisy only in Christianity? Why not point out the hypocrisy in man?

The average everyday non-religious Joe is just as hypocritical as any religious person I know.

Last time I checked, there were no rules laid down for being a man. There are distinct and straight forward rules for being a Christian.

I've wondered many of the same things you posted

What I think is cute is how you associate The Old Testament with Christians. The Old Testament has about as much to do with Christians as an orange has to do with a apple.

Christians believe in the New Testament in fact quite a few Christian bibles don't even have the Old Testament in it. Basically, what they say is that God was kidding, what he really meant is in our "New Testament". Except for the parts of The Old Testament they use to claim Jesus was prophesized about and therefore that makes Jesus the son of God.

But yes I would agree "Christians" the ones calling themselves ?Born Agains? are by far the biggest hypocrites I have ever encountered. They lie, cheat and steal and they use the New Testament to justify it.

aico 08-28-2005 03:47 PM

Oh, let's not forget the 7 Deadly sins:

Pride, envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, & Sloth...

C'mon guys, if you are gonna lay down the rules, at least follow them before you go around chanting how righteous and what a "Good Christian" you are.

It seems pretty simple to me.

So, what you are saying is that they re-wrote a book to make it more their way? lol... wow, go figure.

Dirty Dane 08-28-2005 03:58 PM

There's nothing bad about the 10 commandments, basically they tell you to be a good boy/girl, and you don't really have to be christian to live by those rules.

But I think we all are hypocrats, because somehow we are all bad motherfuckers. At one level or another :)

Oye, this might be the most misinformed post I've seen in a while trying to stir up a debate about religion.

$5 submissions 08-28-2005 04:14 PM

Deliciously ironic how Pat Robertson and other righties get bent all out of shape when Islamic clerics issue murderous fatwas. T

How would I be misinformed? Are you saying that the Ten Commandments are incorrect?

Yeah guys will all of you please stop claiming to be Good Christians on this board? I am really sick of everyone on this board going on and on about church and feeling bad when they miss church and when they make baby Jesus cry! Enough is enough! :1orglaugh

Are you sure you are posting this attempt to debate on the right board? :error

Oh, I am not saying that the 10 commandments aren't a good idea to follow. I am just saying that if you are going to worship something, and that something tells you how it is gonna be... how can you say you are worshiping them if you won't even follow its 10 simple rules?

Do you know why church for the most part is on Sunday, and not Saturday? Because Constantine, a Pagan Roman sun-worshiper, moved the day of rest to Sunday, and to compete with that the Christian church, at its Council of Laodicea circa 364 CE, ordered that religious observances be moved from Saturday to Sunday.

The "Church" doesn't like competition...

Just look at the Origins of Easter:

The name Easter comes from a pagan figure called Eastre (or Eostre) who was celebrated as the goddess of spring by the Saxons of Northern Europe. A festival called Eastre was held during the Spring equinox by these people to honor her. When second century Christian missionaries wanted the Saxons to accept Christianity, they decided to use the name Easter for this holiday so that it would match the name of the old Spring celebration. This made it more comfortable for those converts to accept Christianity and still retain some of their heritage.

You will be assimilate, resistance is futile.

Theo The Theologian 08-28-2005 04:59 PM

aico 08-28-2005 05:05 PM

"Christians have been conditioned to accept that Christmas and Easter are essentially part of the Christian tradition. The facts are that neither are at all Christian and both have their roots in the mystery cults, The Saturnalia, the worship of the Mother goddess system and the worship of the Sun god. They are directly contradictory to the laws of God and His system."

I think if you are gonna worship something you should worship the Sun.

1. you can see it, so you know it's there.
2. it sustains and creates life (sounds familiar).
3. if you look directly into it it will burn your eyes (again sounds familiar).
4. if you ignore it's powers it will burn you (hmmm).
5. it controls the weather (wait a minute)
6. without it, your life would seem dark and meaningless.

I could go on and on and on...

(don't worry, pretty soon I will have to go and pick my gf up from the airport).

Unfortunately, they say that God created the sun as well. :winkwink:

But didn't he create Jesus too? However, the Sun Resurrects itself every day... Still waiting on Jesus. :thumbsup

Hyprocrasy is not new to Christianity, even before the times of Jesus he was rebuking them in what they do. "be ye doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your ownselves."

No, I'm saying you're intentionally taking them out of context.

It may make you feel better about yourself in the morning, but philosophically nothing you've posted thus far even touches on the stance of most modern denominations regarding those issues.

How am I taking it out of context? You keep saying things without backing any of them up. Typical idiot defense "It just is, that's why".

All of my "out of context" facts come from here:
