sweetcuties 08-28-2005 07:29 AM

The Mayor is on CNN now... mandatory evacuations

Zebra 08-28-2005 07:29 AM

Mandatory evacuations now. Better hope for the best and prepare for the absolute fucking worse.
They are using the Superdome as a shelter for up to 100k people. Hope it stays intact or there could be a major disaster.

To make matters worse, all of New Orleans is UNDER SEA LEVEL! This storm could take New Orleans off the map. :disgust

Surely they have generators in the Superdome?

Linkster 08-28-2005 07:51 AM

Winds are now up to 175 mph sustained - this is getting even worse

While the superdome has generators - understand that it is going to take weeks to restore power to New Orleans by Entergy - they dont have the gas to keep the generators going that long

Babagirls 08-28-2005 07:55 AM

why anyone is still there, is beyond me. they were talkin about if the hurricane hit New Orleans that they would get up to 200 mph winds, flooding, power outtages for a long period of time, no safe way to travel, and even gas stations are running out of gas (from everyone filling up to bail out of town)

Zebra 08-28-2005 07:56 AM

Goodbye Bourbon Street :(

As you said in the last thread, they ride out storms....

Linkster 08-28-2005 07:57 AM

Because so many people think that this is just a little reality show they can watch on TV - and dont realize that if this thing hits New Orleans directly - they will be sitting in their living rooms under 20 ft of water

Pete-KT 08-28-2005 07:58 AM

THATS FUCKED UP, i just called my freind amber and her whole family they each live in seprate parts of town and I cant contact anyone there closer to mississipi but on CNN there saying they were evacuating there town also, I hope to god there ok, Ambers mom is about 65 years old and i hope shes ok shes like a second mom to me. Just got off the phone with grandmother.

At least m,y mom has evacuated. SHe is driving somewhere in texas right now.

My grandmother wasnt answering phone till now, but she just did, told me all is good. They are prepared. Mty uncles always help families that stay, no way EVERYONE could leave anyway. The entire state of LA cant just up and roll to Texas hehehe. Some HAVE to stay

not everywhere is "mandatory" - the media hypes this up like everything.

but it is bad.

New Orleans is sinking man and I dont wanna swim.

jollyperv 08-28-2005 08:27 AM

I love NOLA, got a lot of friends down there...hopefully everyone made it out...see you all on the other side. Be safe.

Babagirls 08-28-2005 08:30 AM

oh shit, i didnt know it turned into a Category 5 overnight :Oh crap

DateDoc 08-28-2005 08:42 AM

Keep your fingers crossed that this storm acts like a few in the past and suddenly drops strength before landfall. If Katrina comes ashore at this intensity you can pretty much kiss a lot of that coast goodbye for years not weeks or months. There are still areas in Homestead that never got built back up after Andrew. This looks like its going to be like Camille in 1969. Very bad - very, very bad. :(

Furious_Male 08-28-2005 08:49 AM

I am hoping for the sake of those down there that this storm takes a sharp turn west just before land fall. This is a disaster in the making right now.

Verbal 08-28-2005 08:51 AM

Lets hope everybody stays safe.
