Is there more money in online porn or vhs porn?
I mean, if I shoot my own really cheap amateur porn videos, would I do better selling them in vhs format in video stores, or making a paysite and selling memberships to see the vids?
I just wondered why some major kickass sites dont sell their vids in vhs format. |

I think its cheaper to just sell it online. If you go traditional route, theres more issues to deal with, like the above mentioned distribution. If you got an offline system setup, then that would be your best bet.

My partner sells thousands of VHS tapes per month but he has also been doing it before there was an internet. ( 14 years ) He postal mails over 8000 flyers per month to active clients, has a warehous full of tapes, and runs his ass off all day long. We sell the vhs and the mpegs ( do pretty well at it ) . Unfortunetly for you it isnt even close to being easy. You cant beleive what it takes to make 6000 vhs tapes, labels, box covers, shipping labels, and then process the orders. On top of that try dealing with 25 models per month and arranging the shoots. Just once try to arrange a girl/girl shoot. The models have to get along, if they are friends they just giggle the whole time. Speaking of time, try to get two girls to show up on time. LOL.. get the picture ?

A year or two ago I went to the Consumer Electronics show (Adult Video) in Las Vegas immediately followed by Internext.
If I were to judge by the tradeshows, I would say internt has 100x the money as Adut video people. The Adult Video part of CES was in the basement of the convention center and all the booths were cheap loking low rent, they gave nothing away not even a t-shirt, the people in the booths looked like trailer park refugees or ex-cons. The Internext show was in the main hall with huge high-tech booths, free open bar for the whole show, I got about 20 t-shirts, Cyberotica alone had 50 beautiful dancers from Ricks Cabaret, there were free parties every night with food and drink and dancers, they rented out all the big venues with big name performers, all for free. If anybody is getting rich in Adult Video, they sure are hiding it well. |
I would say that "distributing" your adult vids online would be much more profitable, but there are still things to worry about.
You would be able to easily make cheap copies of your vids, simply by duplicating the data, so you wouldn't have to maintain hardly ANY inventory to speak of, beyond a set of master files for your customers to download from the Net, & a set in your safe, or even in your hall closet, for backup purposes, just in case your computer crashes & frags your files. Like the one person mentioned, you have "The Sopranoes" to deal with in the "real world" VHS industry, & online, you have the hackers, crackers, moles, & leeches. I would say that if you did have ANY kind of success with your plans, that your videos would very quickly be distributed without your knowledge, let alone your profit. Everybody is looking for some kind of free ride, these days. But there is seemingly NO end to the possibilities for moneymaking on the Net, so I would STILL pick the Net, if the choice were mine. Just as the "PasswordForum.com stealing YOUR passes" thread showed, there are right ways, & there are wrong ways of going about doing things. There will ALWAYS be password sites, just as there will always be warez sites, & mp3 sites, so it's beyond foolish to worry about them...what YOU need to do is invest in some form of protection, such as the PASSWORD SENTRY that was mentioned, as a form of damage control. You ARE going to PAY, one way, or the other.....there's really NO escaping that fact. The question is, can YOU decide how MUCH you pay? I feel that getting that aforementioned Password Senty, or something similar, would be a MUST for anyone in the online porn business. That way, you LIMIT how much you can LOSE, or be taken advantage of, in other words. Technology is here to stay, & it has provisions for both "the light & dark sides of the force". You need to accept the facts, so you can deal with reality. The Net isn't the way that we would like it to be. Kids are learning how to hack before they even get into jr high. Don't believe me?
