Host Review: Justedge.net (I canceled)
Just recently I have canceled my server at the justedge.net. After about 2 years with them I had no other choice, as to leave them as server outages were an issue and response to trouble tickets was extremely slow.
Only when I caught heir admin Gregg on AIM I was helped immediately. Otherwise I was doomed to wait for many days. Just before I left them, ftp was not working for 3 days, then my server was down for over 24 hours because they said their IPs were highjacked by the backbone provider Telia - and once that was fixed neither Cpanel nor email would work and 5 trouble tickets were left unanswered over 3 days. I finally was so upset, that I ordered a server with ev1 and canceled with justedge. It was not suprising to me that even after I cancelled in time, they still invoiced and charged me for the upcoming billing cycle. I complained and hope to hear hear back from them. Originally, I came in contact with them because my former host elysium.net got bought up by justedge. I had a Celeron 1.7/512Mb/40Gb with WHM/Cpanel. After the transfer to a new datacenter I was supposed to be upgraded to a Celeron 2.4 as this was the standard machine for the going rate of 154 US$. This upgrade never happened and I overpayed for the old Celeron 1.7 for about 2 years. Only after many serious and long outages and server reboots that happened in May and June this year (one time my server was down for 14 hours), Gregg told me that I was supposed to have a P4 2.4/1GB/80GB as this was what I was billed for ( http://www.justedge.net/server-price-list.htm ). When I told him that I was still running on an aged Celeron 1.7 he promised to transfer all my stuff on a new P4 2.4 server in the same week. Again - this promise was broken. Nothing happened. I sent more than 10 emails to Gregg asking about the promised upgrade as the server was having serious load and memory problems during log and backup creation. No reply to emails. Only once, he replied that he needed some more time to do it right, but he was busy for preparation of a wedding. No reaction after the wedding. Since I was a bit lazy and more or less afraid of possible trouble with some scripts that could occur after a server move, I was happy as long as the server was up. But then things went worse as described above. I am just trying to reflect my own experience with justedge.net. Gregg was really helpfull when I caught him on AIM and fixed things quickly, but other than that the host was very much unreliable, had many long outages and technical troubles, very bad customer service and they over charged me on the machine for a long time. If you are a customer with them and have trouble, chances are you might end up the same way. My advise: react fast - it won't get better in my experience. (Maybe I am to demanding. I expect a reaction time of 15 to 30 mins. for a reboot/emergency and up to 6 or 8 hours for a normal request as well as a possibility to contact support by chat or phone and of course 99.9% uptime) |
