What made GFY so great back then? Has it really changed so much in a few years?

There's suddenly a great deal of people with thousands of posts whose name I've never seen, have no idea what they do or who they are.
That sucks. Also I miss boneprones gazillion aliases and pimpdogs daily bannings and returns.. ahh, so many fond memories.

There are a handful of people with over 20k posts that nobody seems to know.

less surfers, more insightful or entertaining people around (labret, gary tough he ended up as a scammer was funny, boneprone!, thefly, teengodfather, toodamnfly, spacedog was pure entertaiment, amp had his good days, etc.etc.etc) 5 page drama threads were real drama and not fake, but nostalgia will do that to you even if the good old days were objetively worse.

yes, i started when the dialer issues were coming up, one of the first threads i read was snow talking about dialer $$$...that got me hooked

or how about boneprone in mexico, snow and dialers, absoluteseries with stolen content and stuff

Ohh, the drama involved in the GFY designer contest, that was great.

What made GFY great back then was simply this.

It was the first threaded board that webmasters opened their arms too and truly accepted.

Before GFY, Netpond had the boards everyone sent too. Prior to that, it was Ynot. All flat boards. I know back when GFY came out, I was very hesitant to move all of Netpond's boards to threaded, just didn't see it taking off. I was wrong.

GFY is a good board, no doubt, but doesn't hold a candle to Ynot when it comes to pure money making ideas. The difference of 5 years in this business is what seperates the multi millionaire program owners, and the gallery makers.

webmasters actually helped each other out, no fake drama, very little surfers, less satuation of programs (better conversions) cuz not everyone had their own programs lol ALOT less drive-by spamming, pretty much less of everything (in a good way.)

I think a lot of that can be attributed to regulations as well. The rules today are so much different from even 3 years ago its almost like a different world.

How many of those old school multi-millionaire program owners could have had the same success in today's climate? And how many of them made their money without completely fucking over their customers?

There weren't a lot less BS threads back then. More business oriented. And hardly the usual lameO "would you hit it" theads and "see sig" posts.

Boneprone and Party Goat did it for me. The infamous popcorn bucket movie theatre story!

it all depends on the group that is posting at that time, i find GFY moves in alot of trends, when a certain group of people are posting i post less because i find them to be bigtime wannabes. but when there is a good core of oringal sounding posters GFY can be and is as great as ever.

i find there to be less and less original people out there in general.

back when there was one contest a month or two, and it was a pick the caption style.

now a contest a day.

But it still here and it will stay longer. I am glad I am part of this thriving webmaster hub.

Signatures changed a lot of things. I'd say it changed at least 25-30% of the experience.

Drama threads where real. You new most of guys on here and even had them in your ICQ list. If you needed to know something or find out some info you even got real answers.

It constantly changes,drama comes and goes,still one of the best for new webmasters coming into it and bullshitting

In turn fucking us all over.... A little bit of creative billing is one thing, but what some of those guys pulled was crazy. We are paying for it now.

Unfortunatly the SMS/Mobile market is pulling the same scams now - fucking us all over for the long term once again.

Porncity was the first real webmaster board for me. For sure I learnt more there than anywhere back in 98. People soon forget or just dont know.

In 8 years Ive maybe been screwed for a few hundred $
and yes I do about 20k a year in design work along with my other stuff. I have never been stiffed on payment for disign work it's not a big part of my income but hey If I have the time why not make a extra 20k.

Sorry I did get cheated out of few thousand on the first pairs hilton deal but I new the deal was a scam when I signed up I made some good money but never got my last payment for about 2.5k but then again I knew the deal and expected to fucked over so dose this count?
