No more Credit Cards, Is SMS/Text the future?

Do you think phones will replace credit cards in the future? With all of the problems involved with credit card billing, charge backs etc.

We have just introduced SMS/Text billing on all of our CuriousCash websites and the initial indications are extremely positive.

I?m interested to know other peoples experience with SMS/Text.

the sms industry will explode here in the US. I believe our mobile phones will become our credit cards/cash too.

Hope not..

I have a cell phone, it has no antenna and hasn't been charged in at least 3 or 4 months.. Useless things.

Do you guys/Girls in the U.S. call it SMS or Text ? :helpme

Doctor Dre 08-25-2005 12:13 AM

We talked about this for YEARS now ... and nothing has happened so far ... europe is so much further in the SMS tech then we are.

Resolute 08-25-2005 12:45 AM

Don't forget Australia it is also way - ahead of the U.S. with SMS.

I think there will always be both.

Maybe your question should be rephrased to...

Will SMS over come Online Credit Card Based Transactions?

I for one am not sure. If so its gonna be a while.
Ringtones and jinglings are cool and all but ultimatly will people shop EBAY and purchase things via SMS? Its things like that the Entreprenerial minded should be contemplating.

too early to predict what's gonna happen.

People usually call it text here, one syllable versus 3 so it sounds better. Saying SMS sounda a bit geeky =0

I really think SMS is hitiing that direction soon.

No one in the US knows wtf SMS is. And contrary to popualr beleiv not everyone has acell phone. I've never owned one. I'm not paying $40 a month for shitty reception and that's not counting what they charge for actually making the call.

CuriousToyBoy 08-25-2005 02:11 AM

I think SMS now is where the net was in 1997.

;-)

If the networks don't want to play ball in the USA with adult content...SMS will never make it here

right now they don't allow access to adult content vis SMS pin code billing...and they have no plans to eitheir...they are VERY anti adult

the other limitation of SMS for the rest of the world is you can only charge small amonts, like a euro or 2 in most cases...sorry but that doesnt stack up to a $39.95 recurring credit card charge
