NEXT: Google OS
Tip from my source on the inside.
GOOG will go to $500 a share and Warren Buffett will finally get interested. GOOG wants to be the next MSFT. |
This is old news :)
|
Anyone try Google Talk yet? Pretty cool. No need to type just plug in your headset and chat like you're on the phone.

MSFT hasn't set all its guns on GOOG ... yet. When it does, it's gonna be anyone's guess whether GOOG will become another Netscape or Real Media.
|
a Google OS? that's fuckin' wild, not all that surprising either, sounds pretty cool to me!

Google is invotative, Microsoft is lacking behind but i dont think google will be going in to the OS business anytime soon, Google is a search engine company, Most of the programs that get released are because of the 20% free time they give employee's.. |
Google OS probably wouldn't do so hot. If they stick to their SE and Internet stuff, they will be around forever.

If Yahoo did not choose to use them (foolishly) for their back end, this company would have gone no where. Just another example of farming out your entire business biting you in the ass. Yahoo got smart before they took all their market share. Google has Microsoft and Yahoo on their heels, and others will appear. They are branching into areas that are away from their core market. Once you start spreading yourself thin, you lose focus. There are billions of dollars to be made in the search (advertising market). They need to keep on making that area better or someone is going to knock them off their block. |
I have heard of it. well I guess lets just wait and see.
|
Let Google an MSFT work together... Rule the World !!!
|
when are they going to start making automobiles?

i am testing a hotfix for Google Os V3.12b
and must say it rocks *sigh* what will they do next .. take over the world ?? or hire gates as their CEO? :) |
making an OS is kinda alot of work. more than knocking up an IM service or a mapping application. this is a whole nother ballpark. i would be surprised if they attempted something like this that could flop so spectacularly.
errrrrr it seems to me that they are just releasing new products at convenient intervals to keep the google share price bubble pumped. at the end of the day where is the REVENUE from these new products? how much bank is google maps ot google talk actually pulling down? why should the market get excited about new technology driven products that dont have a revenue stream attached to them (that actually cost money to maintain)... oh and google seems to have only one decent revenue stream- advertising... and we know what happens to online advertising in an economic downturn. |
Google is no Netscape. Who knows?? 100 years from now, you won't be using Windows XP. That's for sure.

I doubt they'd actually make an OS, they want the desktop space, i would expect them to attack MSFT's cash cow applications.

yeah most of the google stuff released lately is kind of crap, but most of it is harnessing the idea behind web 2.0 technologies. I think they're just laying the groundwork, and at the moment it looks boring. |

Also MSFT would face the prospect of another anti-trust case. |
You guys talk like if making a OS was easy..
Even if they decide to use Linux as core of the OS they will have shitloads and I mean shitloads of obstacles and problems in the way... |
What some people forget that google makes most of its money by selling ad space and they aren't going to put something out unless they can shove ads right into the users face and when you do that to an entire operating system people start feeling uneasy. They could put out a OS but if they try to shove ads into it nobody will be using it. What i do see google making is a media player and thier own browser. With those sticking in contextual ads would be pretty easy and accurate.

google OS ain't gonna go anywhere, they should save their money
|
I'm waiting for Google chat
|
Google's got a great future and they are extremely wise to diversify their holdings and offerings. To remain steadfast to the singular goal of being the best search engine is futile. They are the largest and best search engine. However, this success was as much a function of process as it was of invention. They are innovators, much like the BASF of the web, they don't invent or make a lot of the things you use, they make a lot of the things you use better.
Google has come a long way but they are still in their infancy. I haven't bought into the stock on the hope for a dip in share price, that day hasn't really come in 12 months. Add it to my list of many regrets that I didn't buy 1000 shares at the IPO. |

Not to mention you assume they will make it all up and working with any problems...because they aren't MSFT and well they are Google rigth?... you are so smart... :1orglaugh Quote:

The google OS is nothing new. It's been predicted for a long time. It's not a software applications like Windows. It's going to be a new way to access many standard applications over the web. So you can start a word processing document, save it online and resume it from anywhere else with an internet connection without having to bring all of your files with you on a laptop.
That's why they are putting out all of these desktop apps like the sidebar. It's all about control of your desktop when you start up your computer. |
