Would you rather do business with a Board Persona or a Regular Joe?

Would you rather do business with a Board Persona who talks a good talk and may not be able to back up what he says? Or a regular joe who does not try and look like the class clown in high school? I know that after dealing with many of these persona's that they are nothing more then entertainment on the boards.
Few of them make what you think they do and are able to increase there post counts by having nothng other to do then post. You tell me how you feel about this? |

I started in this business in 97 and I've never done business with anyone I haven't met face to face.
I do use board persona's to help judge a persons character - how they act when they're hidden behind a persona speaks volumes toward their true character when they think they will be able to hide from you in a business deal. All the posts I've read about some folks who it's been said of "Oh they're a different person when you're face to face" - I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. |

I would do business with both but basically I would ask around for references. Sometimes people use the boards to just boost their ego but in real like they are not as bad as they try to portray.

I'm not to big on the board persona thing ... i hate when i see i guy online and he's one way then i meet him and he's an entirely different person ..i'm not cool with that ... i want to know who I'm dealing with .... I'm exactly the same on the board as i am in real life ...ask anyone that knows me .. :thumbsup

Just like the old saying, "99% of the time when someone says that they're just kidding they're simply covering up the truth" is how I feel about board personas. 99% of the time their board persona is their true persona.
If they act like morons on the board then that is generally their real life personality. What you see when you meet them is their fake personality. It's easy to put on a charade for a weekend to make some friends but what you say and/or do on the boards is pretty much who you are. :2 cents: |

i wonder if im a board persona
	i know what i make...i wonder what you do....hmmmm |

Wait, that would make me a split personality Jesus Freak/Pirate :( I agree though, both with you, and Bama. There are people on here that are just too *good* at being assholes to be anything but. |

I'm as boring and dull in real life as I am here. But just like in real life here in the office I help people make more money. I think that these boards are one of the best resources for finding good people to work with. Bad news spreads fast here, I think that the boards keep people more accountable and people can create or ruin their own reputations. Good business people are good business people in any medium.

A board persona is the projection of himself (or herself) that someone chooses to make. Whether it reflects the real person and/or those to whom he/she is trying to appeal, it is valid to judge the person accordingly.
But the *sshole character is only part of the picture. What about the sponsors and their reps, the hosts, designers, content providers and the rest who come across as full of ideas and ready to bend over backwards to help, but can barely spare you the time of day if you actually contact them and have nothing to offer except more of the same-old, same-old. So many people know what others want, but seem to feel it's enough to claim to provide it, without actually having to. |
