As each day passes I regret more and more the invention of the internet.

It is pandora's box squared.

This tool to improve our lives has had it's negative impact that will only grow as it's reach into our lives continues to grow.

Welcome to the downfall of society. You've got mail.

Snake Doctor 08-24-2005 07:59 AM

Eh hogwash.

Any tool that brings information to the masses is good IMHO.

cherrylula 08-24-2005 08:00 AM

well then maybe you should stop using it. :1orglaugh

It is not hogwash, you just dont' want to accept any responsibility for a part you may have played.

Just because it has it's positive effects does not mean it does not have it's negative effects and that those do not outweigh the positive.

Maybe you should throw your computer away and disconect your internet so you dont have to worry about it;)

justsexxx 08-24-2005 08:07 AM

Everything has it's bad and good sides....Because if the internet I have met a lot of ppl I otherwise wouldn't have met.

Also intrenet gives me freedom, to work when I want, and where. So I have more tim to spend with my friends now, then I would work 9am-5pm

I guess people don't quite grasp the concept of Pandora's Box.

Once it's out there..there is no turning back.

The internet and it's reach into our lives is so pervasive that you can't avoid it.

I expected much more from you Cherry...figured you would at least get the literary reference.

Nor does it mean the opposite. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

StuartD 08-24-2005 08:22 AM

I do agree... people refuse to even pick up the phone to call people anymore... people are too lazy to write a letter and mail it... people drive to the corner store (if they can't order it online)....

On top of that, it's made people more jaded and less social. People have more free license to do or say anything to anyone... to pretend to be anything.

Some people, rather than go outside and meet people and make friends, would rather go online and be bitter and cruel to people in chat rooms and message boards as a form of amusement.

Judgment is in..society has changed for the worse and the internet definitely had it's impact.

Okay guys...I really gotta get going...LOL

I've got 38 minutes to get across town to my classes and I'm not even dressed. :1orglaugh

now that's funny.. :1orglaugh

pink_in_the_middle 08-24-2005 08:26 AM

I agree with you. We all need it to survive but we're making it worse. There's so much shit out there that the news doesn't tell you but you can find it on thousands of internet sites. It's the beginning of the end. Put on your tinfoil hats ;)

Ace-wtf 08-24-2005 08:30 AM

everything needs it's Balance

polish_aristocrat 08-24-2005 08:31 AM

same can be said about cell phones or cars for that matter

things change, simple as that

whether it is good or not, change is inevitable

MacDaddyPlaya 08-24-2005 08:32 AM

I can see how you feel the Internet has proven to have negative aspects. I might even buy into the negatives outweighing the positives. But the Internet causing the downfall of our society? I think that is a bit over dramatic. :2 cents:

it's not that difficult to get away from the internet. i take off for a week or more at a time into the backcountry each month. no internet, no running water, no cell phone signal, no electricity. you would be surprised at how quickly you forget about all of those things. when i come back it always feels weird to get back online.

tristan_D 08-24-2005 06:09 PM

its not with the tool, but with the users.

yep that about sums it up :thumbsup

reed_4 08-24-2005 08:06 PM

why do you hate life? more new internet inventions really are beneficial to mankind and i don't see any negative things in it.

Downtime 08-24-2005 08:13 PM

Now that is poetic. But I gotta disagree with you.

BlackCrayon 08-24-2005 08:23 PM

the net sure has taken my life in a different direction than it most likely would have gone had the net not exisited. both positive and negative.

The only fear I have is that computers will finally give enough power to a governement to rule for a longgg term ... except that ... I don't think it can really hurt ourselves badly.

same here ... i don't know if it's positive or negative ... will know on the long term

Dagwolf 08-24-2005 08:56 PM

I'll never know what my life would have been without it. It would have been a lot different for sure. I met my wife on IRC. That's not something I'd want to reverse.
