Google goes Instant Messenger (Google Talk)

Word around the campfire is Google Inc. is planning on launching an Instant Messenger system called: Google Talk.

The IM will be another kick right in Microsoft's face, just like Google dealt yesterday. While the release of Google's Desktop Search 2 will hurt Microsoft, this will be an even more painful blow to their faces.

Google Talk should be available as early as Wednesday, but that would seem highly unlikely.

Google is constantly moving/attacking more companies by introducing free services further away from their original: Search Engine.

Google and other companies such as Yahoo!, MSN, AOL need to keep their customers as long as possible, and an Instant Messenger is just the right way to accomplish this.

or even better, sell intelligent, contextual keyword advertising that makes words clickable and sends to a relevant page. (a-la wikipedia-ish style)

MediaHound 08-23-2005 09:01 AM

Trillian does that with wikipedia, I think it's pretty cool.

CherryLipsRosa 08-23-2005 09:02 AM

Great idea but can't they come out with a better name ?

tony286 08-23-2005 09:15 AM

I heard they are working on a os , microsoft is in their gunsights. At this point I think if it worked and was easy to use. Microsoft could be in trouble.

Google is a class act. I'll use their shit. if they build an OS that will support the current software, I'd be all over that shit.

At one point that's what Netscape was doing also.
Of course M$ ruined them with their shady tactics that a judge later made them pay for. They won't be able to pull that again.

If the chat thing is true then it certainly seems like google is turning itself into a full fledged portal instead of just an SE.

One of the reasons Yahoo fell to the side when Google came along was that the big Y spread itself too thin. Instead of focusing on it's search and directory it tried to become everything to everyone.

Google is now doing the same thing and I bet over the long haul it hurts them. Google got to it's lofty position by focusing solely on search technology and as much as some of their new gadgets and gizmos are cool, Google should be careful to not lose sight of the real reason they are on top.

PornGeneral 08-23-2005 09:36 AM

Funny I heard that OS rummor also, but from a better source then you! lol

Jace 08-23-2005 09:39 AM

the OS rumor isn't what you all think it is....do some more research

O MARINA 08-23-2005 09:40 AM

Mr Pheer 08-23-2005 09:42 AM

I'm sure that if google makes an OS they will put thier IM and search in it just like microsoft does. Microsoft would file lawsuits just like netscape did.

Google is doing this for survival, if you have been following their ongoing feud with yahoo and msn you would know that google is making these moves preemptively.

Agreed. They also seem to be going about it one step at a time. Which is the best approach.
