hurt my internet feelings? no, i dont know how someone i dont know could hurt my feelings.

i dont know how text can effect my daily life.

seriously, if someone gets to you on a msg board, you have issues.

its TEXT.

Praise you Brother Shoe Polish. Words in this context are *said* through text, so should be taken the same.

On a side note have you ever wondered why water mellon really doesn't seem too watery.

reynold 08-23-2005 01:22 AM

what did you do to them?

exactly

regardless of whether it is typed out or not, they are still being "said"

when you read an email do you not take it seriously cause it is TEXT

what about a letter in your mailbox, think of all the bills that would go unpaid, cause they are all in that "text" stuff

and shit, i could just ignore all my "text" messages on my phone and have a lot of people pissed at me, cause it must all be imaginary speech

WarChild 08-23-2005 03:03 AM

Personally, there isn't anything I'd say on a message board that I wouldn't say in person.

Saying it's just "text" is as silly as saying a phone call is just "voice". It shouldn't matter what the medium of communication is, it should be the message that matters.

I think people that have different personalities on the interenet and in real life are just cowards.

The internet is just another communication medium. Contrary to what some people think, the internet isn't just for people who want to be keyboard warriors.

BigCashCrew Dude 08-23-2005 03:21 AM

isn't text another form of communication between people? i swear it was!

polish_aristocrat 08-23-2005 03:31 AM

Warchild and Furious Female - both of you seem to be always defending nofx though, although some people are often offended by him or feel that their feelings got hurt

and no, he wasn't the one that inspired me to start this thread, i just read two threads where BradM and fris posted something totally different related to reacting to message board posts

acually I noticed fris saying "this is just text" every day here and I often wondered how others look at it

Nicky 08-23-2005 03:34 AM

It depends on if I know they one who writes or not.....

High Plains Drifter 08-23-2005 03:39 AM

The context of the message is important, not whether its text or not. If I get a spam email that went out to 5 million people and it says I'm a fuckin loser, I probably won't be too upset about it.

very true man....i don't consider spam to be communication though, and i think everyone here knows that we are referring to text as a medium of communication between two conversing parties....not spam bots...LOL

this thread is getting serious now.

Both statements contain an element of truth. Text on a message board is no different than words, however text (or words) don't have much impact when coming from some semi-anonymous schmuck.

Dalai lama 08-23-2005 06:47 AM

dont feel offended by a post on GFY.

jayeff 08-23-2005 07:35 AM

If two pseudonymous board warriors simply trade insults, it is crazy for the people concerned to take it to heart. They would be better off considering that unless such threads have at least some humor and originality, they just come across as childish and boring to anyone within an IQ bigger than their shoe size.

But recently this line has been crossed a few times, with knowingly false claims being made about webmasters and/or the programs they represent. And whereas you can choose whether or not to reply to someone who just calls you names, you pretty much have to waste time defending yourself in such cases and even then some of the mud may stick. That isn't a trend anyone should want to encourage.

I don't tend to take things AS seriously when they are said in a group of people as I do on a one on one basis. The reason is, when you have a big group of people, you have people who like to spout off at the mouth and say things just to look tough, feel tough or whatever, however, if the words are said to me one on one, whether it be online or in my face, I DO take those serious because I know they are speaking more of what they REALLY feel than what is popular.

So I voted no, I don't take things that serious on these boards...... but I DO take things serious online, if that makes any sense at all. :)

Rhesus 08-24-2005 05:29 AM

I'm not really in the mood to answer properly, but basically, I agree with BradM.
