Can you drink alcohol in moderation?

Personally I can rarely have just one or two drinks at a party or get together. I only drink once a week (Friday or Saturday) but when I do I end up drinking like a fish and get loaded.

I am curious how I could get myself to just have a "couple". How do you moderate drinkers do it?

PMGames 08-21-2005 09:57 AM

Drive all of your friends to the party and become the designated driver....If you are responsible...that trick will work 100% of the time. lol. :)

fuzebox 08-21-2005 10:02 AM

I have 3-6 drinks every night when just hanging around at home.

Furious_Female 08-21-2005 10:06 AM

I don't drink casually... I drink to get drunk.

I don't even like the smell or taste :disgust and I'm not sure how people drink it with a meal or whatever. Yucky! lol

Furious_Female 08-21-2005 10:08 AM

I don't even drink that often because when I do, I go on a binge for about a week a year then nothing for months and months. I'm a rogue lush :1orglaugh

MikeVega 08-21-2005 10:08 AM

really I've only been able to drink in moderation for the past year ... last year at the Vegas show ..i didn't think i would make it home .. one more day of no sleep and drinking would have killed me .. i learned a lesson ... know i find myself drinking but i slow down toward the end of the night and i drink some water between drinks ... i have no hangover the next day and i get more done at the shows ... everything is better in moderation ... :thumbsup

Tala 08-21-2005 10:13 AM

I'm usually the designated driver. :uhoh

Yes moderation is the key. Thats just something I will have to work on. Its a pain in the ass getting trashed and wasting the next day. I hang over real easy.

FF- I know you are a lush. haha

Peaches 08-21-2005 11:15 AM

I always drink in moderation. I can count on one hand the times I've gotten drunk in the past 15-20 years, and two of those times were recently due to personal events.

HorseShit 08-21-2005 11:25 AM

i drink to get wasted then chat on irc

khs 08-21-2005 12:07 PM

no, what would be the point

Tom_PM 08-21-2005 12:09 PM

How do you do it? You just dont have too many drinks :) Seriously.

Elli 08-21-2005 12:28 PM

I'm usually DD, but when I'm not, I have a few. I only get absolutely smashed a couple times a year, like on my birthday and New Year's. The whole spinning room and upset stomach and feeling vulnerable aspects really don't appeal to me. I do love a good glass of wine with dinner, though, or a cider with friends at a bbq is fine by me. I just don't like the drunk feeling, but I do like the light buzz feeling.

alexg 08-21-2005 12:37 PM

sure i can
without a problem

i also love beer and i can have only 1 for example just for the pleasure of drinking it...

You're not mixing the right drinks then :)

When I mix a rum and coke just right using my favorite rum, diet coke, the right ratio (decently strong), and a touch of lime, it's a damn good drink... I swish it around in my mouth and it tastes good. Same thing goes for a quality beer, you take a sip and go "damn, that's a good beer".

That being said, given enough time I will just keep drinking and drinking and drinking and get trashed without meaning to, even when drinking casually.

zvik 08-21-2005 12:37 PM

it's like asking...do you inhale when smoking a joint. :)
i drink till i can't walk...it's more fun that way :)

StuartD 08-21-2005 12:56 PM

the most I ever have is 3 drinks in a night... usually not that much if at all.

PixeLs 08-21-2005 10:46 PM

I always know how to drink in moderation. Especially when it's alcohol.

WiredGuy 08-21-2005 10:50 PM

I usually drink quite a bit at shows, but when I just go out on weekends, I rarely get drunk. The way I usually do it is to force myself by driving. If I'm driving, I can't drink more than 2-3 per night. And most people will not encourage you to drink more if they know you're driving so its an easy way to avoid peer pressure from friends that want you to get loaded. My 2c at least... :)

I'm not a big drinker these days. I can easily have just 1-2 beers in an evening.

I was borderline alcoholic up until I was about 19-20 though.

woj 08-21-2005 11:01 PM

I could drink 1 or 2, but why, if drinking more is more fun?

je_rome 08-22-2005 02:41 AM

maybe you can video yourself while under the heavy influence of alcholo and then watch it. you will have a clear reminder of what happens if you go beyond your limit.

unocash 08-22-2005 02:51 AM

i always say i am going to start off with a few.. but by the end of the night i am usually plowed.

fuzebawks!!!! noooooo! I do it purposely... I drink it straight and fast to get drunk faster and not have to drink a whole lot :1orglaugh :upsidedow </lush>

penzo 08-22-2005 09:20 AM

Odie 08-22-2005 10:16 AM

I used to drink so much that my back would ached the next day. I have since stopped and drink a couple glasses of red wine at dinner and now tall vodka/soda's. No more martini's or shots :)

Sosa 08-22-2005 10:39 AM

Platinum Red 08-22-2005 10:43 AM
