so how many americans are looking forward to the Canadian export tax on gas
so in response to the US deciding to ignore the unanimous decision by the "NAFTA Extraordinary Challenge Committee" (final appeal) that the duties on Soft wood was in violation of the NAFTA agreement.
Canada has canceled the negotiation scheduled next week and is preparing retalitory tarrifs like and export tarriff on oil. So how many of you americans are looking forward to the price increase at the pumps. |
You might wanna study that a little more before making general statements like that - thats just something one negotiator suggested and everybody else threw it out the window as soon as he said it - just like the orange juice tariff he suggested - cause anything like that would just hurt Canada's pocketbook more - which is why everybody is waiting on the WTO to set up new negotiations

An export tarrif on oil, would increase the cost to the US, and if matched with an equal cut to the gas tax would result in no increase to the canadian consumer. (which was the fully explained proposal). |
Canada can flex it muscles all it wants....but its got none to flex.
That in mind, i fucking love canada. And i wish it wasn't that way. |

Canada thinks they are owed $5 bill from the "illegal tariffs" on lumber imports from the US They have asked the WTO to rule in their favor which it probably will so how do they go about collecting it? One "suggestion" that was thrown out was placing an import tariff on OJ and wine from the US. The reason it was thrown out is because that would just cause the price for those commodities to be higher for Can. consumers. The next "suggestion" (and remember these were from former negotiators - not the current people involved) was slapping export tariffs on oil and gas to the US - which also was thrown out by the group and the Alberta government was pissed that it was even suggested as that would hurt that industry - the US would just get their oil and gas somewhere else for cheaper and drop their imports from Canada which is very small in the scheme of things. Hope that helps |
