Any air conditioner expers here ?

i need to know how they work.

do they just cool the existing room air or do they take the outside air and cool it ?

Realpascal 08-19-2005 01:37 AM

They cool existing room air by bringing humidity down.

DarkJedi 08-19-2005 01:37 AM

i need a system that would supply fresh air from the outside without opening the windows (because street noise)

does such a thing exists ?

you need a axom2000 window unit this will solve you well.

You generally need somewhere for the the warm air to go, unless you have a condenser.

not true.

They extract heat from the existing air.

drama 08-19-2005 04:25 AM

It works like a fridge.

Regardless of the AC you buy you will need to vent the hot air somewhere. If you don't vent it outside then you might as well not be running the AC.

I got a 10,000 BTU portable unit with Dryer like hoses; one to intake air from the outside and one to spit it back out. Its one big unit. I doubt you'll hear the outside with that baby humming away.

If you suck air from the room you create a vacuum in the room and will draw in warmer air from the house. If you suck air from the outside and force it into the room the room becomes pressurized and you'll be forcing the cold air out.

most air cond. systems are not taking outdoor air. just cooling/heating the air inside.

You're absolutely wrong. If that was the case you wouldnt need to keep it at a window.

AC units use the outside air to help cool the unit down, intake cold air from outside, run it over the internal parts and spit out heated air (back to outside).

If it worked any other way then the air which gets heated by the AC would be pumped back into the room which it is trying to cool and would more or less be useless.

Thats why everyone buys a dehumidifier and not an AC? You mean we've been bamboozled?
