.xxx - Bush finally does something right!
From: Morality in Media, Inc.
The creation of a Virtual Red Light District on the Internet seemed a forgone conclusion only days ago. Now we have a new opportunity to help stop this misguided effort. Please take a moment to add your name to our letter to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), so we can include your voice in a national effort to stop the creation of the Virtual Red Light District.
Add your signature to our letter to ICANN now!
The Bush Administration through the Commerce Department has asked ICANN to put a hold on its new .XXX domain until mounting concerns can be addressed. ICANN and the Commerce Department have already received thousands of letters from concerned Americans. They need tens of thousands more now! We would like to send our letter with at least 2500 signatures to ICANN by September 1, 2005. The Bush Administration asked for an additional month on August 15. If we can collect 2500 or more signatures and send that letter onto ICANN, our voice along with others will be heard!
There are at least three reasons why the creation of a Virtual Red Light District will cause more harm than any good. First, people will think that as long as a pornographer operates out of the .XXX zone, it's "legal," despite the fact that federal law prohibits distribution of obscene material on the Internet. Second, use of the new domain is not required. Hardcore pornographers can maintain their lucrative current .com sites while expanding their empires to the new domain. Pornography will become more available rather than less available. Third, the new domain won't protect kids because many children have access to computers that don't block pornography and because tech savvy kids can circumvent the block.
Please join Morality in Media in this effort to stop the creation of the .XXX domain.
YOU are critical to our success!
