Texas joins California, New Mexico and Hawaii as states with majority-minority populations -- with Latinos the largest group in every one of those states except for Hawaii, where it is Asian-Americans.

Five other states -- Maryland, Mississippi, Georgia, New York and Arizona -- aren't far behind, with about 40 percent minorities.

isn't it a tad misleading to group a bunch of minorites together to arrive at a total, rather than compare stats race to race?

I don't think so. It's just another way of looking at the stats.

yeah.. the way to make white people like like a minority...
when in fact they outnumber any single race.. (7:1 in texas for example where you just stated they were a minority)

Which happens to be the truth when compared to all minorities combined, which is what they're reporting.

what that article also fails to point out is the relation between illegal immigration and these stats.

illegal immigrants having children here for sake of citizenship lead to a lot of this.

california also houses 1/3 of all illegals, so these numbers would HAVE to be affected by the amount of illegals as well as the legals.

california just elected its first latino Mayor. born and raised in Los Angeles.

"Immigration is good for the United States ... it's important for us to keep our doors open, but we need to keep an eye on the people coming in," Frey said. "While initially it will be a state problem, eventually it will be a national issue, and education is the best way to deal with it."

Some numbers on illegal immigration and how it deeply has an effect on the numbers in our country, and very directly on individual states that feel this weight the most.

http://www.theamericanresistance.com...n_numbers.html

Quote:

Census figures show that 90 percent of illegal immigration comes from Latin America, with 70 percent of the total from Mexico.26 The last decade has witnessed a tidal wave of illegal Mexican immigration. The Center for Immigration Studies noted:

"Indeed, the last decade saw an unprecedented number of Mexicans cross the U.S. border. Between 1990 and 2000, their number doubled - from 4.2 million to 9.2 million, or 30 percent of the entire foreign-born population in the United States. Within this number, unauthorized Mexicans grew by more than 100 percent - from 2 million to 4.8 million, or 69 percent of all illegal aliens in the United States."

Though the Mexican government should be embarrassed that 10 percent of its people have fled to the U.S. from Mexico, President Vicente Fox's administration has embraced this reality. In fact, increasing the number of Mexicans working illegally in the United States is among Mexico's highest foreign policy objectives.30

The Department of Homeland Security estimated in December, 2003, that 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens resided in the United States and 700,000 new illegals enter and stay each year. These official estimates are somewhat suspect and may represent significant undercounts, as they are produced by the very entity responsible for the tidal wave of illegal aliens entering our nation nation - the United States Government. An alternative methodology is used here to estimate a range of numbers of illegals that is likely more realistic.
Methodology

The precise number of illegals entering the United States and the exact rate at which they cross our borders are unknown.
I have nothing against legal immigration I can understand why people want to come here, but I see no need to not read as much about this and face the facts. As a Californian I see groups of illegals on corners looking fo day labor and cops literally just drive by them and the problem is basically "ignored" because Los Angeles police cannot deport anyone.

This problem is growing as I have seen over the past 7 years being here. Educate yourself and try to understand this growing phenomena.

its also no wonder the birth rate has doubled either.

anchor babies.

Quote:

Cristobal Silverio emigrated illegally from Mexico to Stockton, Calif., in 1997 to work as a fruit picker.

He brought with him his wife, Felipa, and three children, 19, 12 and 8 ? all illegals. When Felipa gave birth to her fourth child, daughter Flor, the family had what is referred to as an "anchor baby" ? an American citizen by birth who provided the entire Silverio clan a ticket to remain in the U.S. permanently.
http://www.theamericanresistance.com...2005mar13.html

Its sad, but why should anyone bother to do immigration legal when you can have an achor baby?

I know these people just want a better life but why even have laws and rules in place if anyone can just do this?

THis clearly has a very dramatic effect on all stats related to immigration and texas, and CAlifornia specifically, both are majority ruled by Latino.

Did California and Texas blah not belong to Mexico?
Did some nice white folks not ship blacks in for slavery?
What happened to the Native Americans?

The track record reflects the population - little surprise in that!
