Stern will FAIL when he goes into space

I hate to say it, been listening to Howard for years.

Think about it, whats a good villain without a hero and vice versa? Where would Stern be without the FCC and other radio personalities to butt heads against.

Once he goes satellite, there will be no more competition nor regulation/ antagonists.

I hope I'm not right, just have a bad feeling :(

Thoughts on this?

kmanrox 08-17-2005 08:13 AM

when you hear some of the shit he will be allowed to say in 'space', he will become bigger and many other hosts will follow... assuming the money's there... imho

EroticySteve 08-17-2005 08:15 AM

I totally disagree with your predictions DVD316. You're right if he was just going to make his show raunchier and racier and kept everything status quo, he'd likely fail due to boring his fans to sleep.

He's got a five year gig, he'll make it work. Convincing people to convert to Sirius will be a tough gig, but with it available in so many cars already, most people will have fairly easy access to Stern in short time.

I was just in NY on a trip, and I am amazed at how much they censor the guy. It would be a pleasure to actually HEAR what the fuck they are all saying.

As a side note - I fucking hate the E show of his. I think it sucks. I hadn't heard his radio show in like 7 years, and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed (just like the old days). I expect to get that XM stuff set up when he makes the flip.

it's sirius, not xm.. and the E show is over. he's supposedly working on a new tv show to go with the new radio show. he's even hinted that it will finally be somewhere that doesn't need to blur out all the titties.

i would bet anything stern will NOT fail on sirius. he will once again change the face of radio.

WebTitan 08-17-2005 08:20 AM

no way, it will take off like never before. he is also going to In Demand TV which i love, so he will only get bigger IMHO

Jim_Gunn 08-17-2005 08:22 AM

Howard will suceeed and satellite (especially Sirius) will succeed overall. I can't wait to hear bits like "'It's Just Wrong" uncensored on satelllite. They censor the fuck out of the show on regular radio now.

I thought that the E! show was great even though they censored it a lot. It will be interesting to see the tv show on In Demand. I won't be able to get it on DirecTV though, so I may have to wind up downloading it off of usenet like I do the radio show every day now.

I know what you mean man, but I think he will be ok! He is a smart guy and he knows what hes doing, I think this is just the right choice for him, and also there will always be someone that will try and go against howard and someone that feels they want to take him on, even if he is on sattelite!

I know with me I just like listening to him for what he has to say and the chemistry among him and his team in the studio, its amazing!

IYP_Mich 08-17-2005 08:25 AM

I dont listen to him at all but I hope it works for him there since i have a lot of shares of sirius and want them to go up. Ive been holding on to the shares for more then 1 year and i think its time to get results.

where are the shares now ?

skeet 08-17-2005 10:36 AM

SIRI @ 6.56

Got in at $1.76 sold just under $8. I have since bought back at just over $5 and will wait till they say what the new sub count is after the howard migration.

I'm banking that it will make a run up to $10+ again by early 06 but I could be wrong.

EroticySteve 08-17-2005 10:40 AM

Anyone want to make any predictions as to what their subscriber base is? I'll tell you they need an affiliate program. I would love a piece of that recurring billing. Do they have an affiliate program?

That is a long-term subscriber. The price point is reasonable. The hardware is getting cheaper. If they are smart they'll sell premium hardware along with a subscription contract.

One thing I don't like is the lifetime unit subscription. Just like TiVo that concept blows, long term because if your unit blows up or you want to upgrade you can't transfer.

mardigras 08-17-2005 10:56 AM

Howard will still have censorship villians to kick ass on, they are trying hard to get the decency rules extended to cable and satellite.

Poppy 08-17-2005 10:58 AM

Stern will do just fine.

Martin 08-17-2005 11:09 AM

He's one funny fucker.. I think his fans will follow.

Wiggles 08-17-2005 11:10 AM

i think he'll still have to fight against someone, satellite will be regulated once they hear what he does on it.

Hollywood Horwitz 08-17-2005 11:16 AM

satellite is never gonna be too popular but i think he most def make the best of his new home. i'm more interested in his tv show.

Mako 08-17-2005 11:17 AM

Radio is inconsequential, Howard will be fine. Not Earthshattering like the sheep in this thread believe, but the show will be solid.

Instead of that, I'm going with the InDemand subscription he just announced, cheaper than Sirius and most importantly, UNCENSORED VIDEO of the show each day, 90 minutes worth. That's what will be the big draw, fuck radio.

good point

I think he will do well on sirus. He won't have 12 million listeners a day but he will do well. I can see there being a rush of people getting the gear when he first switches over and a steady stream for several months afterwards as people realize that they miss him. I think his show will change some but only for the better. No he won't have censors to kick around and GM's to yell at, but I listen everyday to him and that is only a very tiny part of his show. He often goes weeks without mentioning them.

Also, as for sattelite, I think it will grow and get bigger and bigger. Not just because of him but a lot of factors. Regular radio is getting stale. The big companies that own 90%+ of all the radio stations are making them all sound alike and I think people are getting tired of it and are starting to look for something where they don't get 20 minutes of music then 10 minutes of commercials and they don't here the same 20 songs over and over again. There will always be free radio and it will always have a pretty big audience but look at cable TV. When cable TV first started there were many people who scoffed at the idea and said it would never work that people would never pay for it. And back then it was more expensive and had hardly any channels. Now just about every house in the country has it in some form or another.

I think the the companies like sirius will continue to strike deals with car makers to have it in the car and the lifetime subscription is included in the price of the car. With that, and the fact that they keep adding more and more people to their talent pool they will continue to grow.
