You are still dealing with O.T. stuff there though, when yahweh was an angry, vengful god that'd strike down the uncircumsized with plagues and disease and shit. JC came around and started telling everyone to be nice to each other.

In both cases, it only shows that anyone who claims to be christian/moslem and harbours hate towards anyone is a hypocrite... and the more public they are about touting their 'faith' the more likely they are to be the worst example of that faith. "Praise the lord and pass the ammo" faux-christians would just be pathetically laughable if they weren't so heavily armed, rather than the blight on the planet they currently are. Ditto for hatemongering 'death to the infidel' faux-moslems. :2 cents:

Seems like all the religions making shit on the planet right now are ones based on the Old Testament though. You don't see too many people killed in the name of vishnu, or bombs for buddha. :disgust

It is paradoxical that many "Christian" fundamentalists in the US all but reject the teachings of Christ himself, in favor of the fire and brimstone of the Old Testament. But although these people tend to be very vocal and influential here, don't lose site of the reality that they are only a small part of the global Christian population.

That said, when it comes to being sent to war, it doesn't make much practical difference whether or not someone believes their bible sanctions their actions. To stay in business, religious institutions the world over have accomodated themselves to the needs of state for centuries and few individuals are willing to test their morality against authority. In fact, Israel is the only country I know of in which large number of soldiers have been willing to go to prison rather than obey what they consider to be immoral orders.
