I am using SkypeOut to make calls back to the states while travelling.. the quality is amazing. my dsl upload max rate is 64 kbps.. and the quality of the call is better than using a landline with a phone card (which uses VOIP anyways).

Skype may be yet another post-dot-com company that makes it to the wall street darling status... i know my startup didn't :(

This supports my observation so far that people don't really click and read links that are posted, so better to copy/paste into the thread.

...with a pictorial abstract since a pic is worth a thousand words, and a cliff notes summary for those that don't have the time to read the link, search for the highlighted main points, or the suggested pictorial.

needs something in the way or earnings first, afaik it doesn't have any worth writing home about. There's even a few projects that use similar technology that allow calling of landlines for nothing.

when do you think
they'll be going public?

so we buy some stock:)

Violetta 08-16-2005 04:00 AM

it'll be huge...

Cains 08-16-2005 04:07 AM

Skype will be huge but you have to wonder where the profit is going to come from. If everyone moves to skype, just where do the call charges come from? OK, that's a bad-case scenario but they're not making huge bucks and the potential isn't there like Sirius or XM. Both of those are trading on future subscriptions and hype, if Skype becomes subscription based they'll lose the majority of their customers. Also it's rather obvious that AOL/MSN and even Google will soon be adding VOIP to instant messaging programs.

The only thing Skype will trade on will be marginal profits and hype of a buyout (Fox is a potential suitor apparently, though their latest purchases don't make sense to me)

kmanrox 08-16-2005 04:08 AM

i love skype... i estimate it has saved me over $1.5k last year

Hustlin Entertainment 09-12-2005 09:44 AM
