Need some help - video editing

So I got this new camcorder and I'm having some major problems capturing my vids on to my computer. It's as if my computer can't even recognize it. Yes, I've installed every disc it came with and I'm using a 1394 cable...anyone know much about this? :Hollering I've been messing with it for a couple days now...

Never looked at your site until just now- you are pretty, Ashley! Anyway, what editing app did you install and on what computer and what camera?

4My 08-15-2005 10:28 AM

Most likely, the problem come from ur computer more than the way ur cam is linked to it. Am sure it's gonna be more easyer to us to help you if you give us more detail about your computer and brand. Also when you say your' computer dident reconise it, u mean ur computer cant see at all your cam is linked to it or you mean its dident reconise the extension ???

help us to help you :)

Thanks :)
I'm used to using Pinnacle Studio Version 9 for video editing, but the camcorder came with some Ulead VideoStudio software - looks easy enough to use. I have a Dimension 4700 Dell computer and the camcorder is a Samsung SC-D6550 Duocam.

Well, when I plug it in, it recognizes that...you know, the little bubble that pops up in the bottom right hand corner...but if I try to add an imaging device, Samsung doesn't even come up. Make sense?

I first tinkered with editing on Ulead Video Studio version 7. Ashley you might want to try making sure the cam is turned on and in VCR mode and connected to the pc thru firewire before you open up the editing app. Make sure the settings in the app are set if it asks you for a type of camera (Samsung, Sony etc). Try to capture using the programs capture features. Try to turn off and then on and connect the camera and if it fails to recognize the camera again try to uninstall and then reinstall the software app while the camera is connected.

Yep, tried all the above. I've been messing with this forever. Under my 'capture source' it only says DV Camcorder - it's doesn't actually say Samsung, which is what makes me think it doesn't really 'see' it there, know what I mean?

Has anyone here ever dealt with the Geek Squad from Best Buy? lol I got my camcorder from there and I'm a hair away from giving them a call. BUT if they're anything like Dell support and shit like that I won't. I don't want someone helping me who's just troubleshooting off a stupid computer screen with shit I've already tried.

The geek squad is pricey though they do get the job done fairly quickly and are nothing at all like the idiots at dell support.

Hell, I don't care what the price is, I just want it fixed! lol I'm so sick of messing with this damn thing. I'm about to throw it out the window!

Ashley,

Check your firewire line for starters. Many times, that cord is bad. Buy an expensive one to be sure. If you are using a cheap wire, it may not read. It happens often.

The other thing you should do is check your "time" setting on the camera. If your time is NOT set, set it then try again. Many times if the time on the camera is not set, the PC will not find the camera.

Ashley,

Go to the Pinnacle web site and make sure you have all the latest patches for the software, there have been several patches for version 9.

Also, Pinnacle is a lot easier to use than the Ulead product.

Thanks Cory-
The time wasn't set, but I set it and tried again - still nothing.
I just got this firewire yesterday at Best Buy - about $32. It's a Dynex. Not sure if that's considered a good one or not?

And so much for the stupid Geek Squad. They just kept transfering my call around and no one could answer anything. Ahh!

Silver, tough to bend wire?

Also, when you hook it up, do you see it anywhere on the harddrive as connected?

Have you plugged it into a different machine?

NaughtyRob 08-15-2005 11:25 AM

That is a problem I have sometimes. Try this. Just turn the power of the camcorder off, reboot the computer. Wait till it is back up, turn the camcorder on.

BV 08-15-2005 11:28 AM

try this,

turn cam off
plug cam into computer with your firewire cable. (dont turn on yet)
open pinnacle
hit the capture tab
should get a warning popup saying that no cam was recognized (because it is off)
turn cam on
click ok on the warning pop up
should work

(remember the cam needs to be on VTR mode Not on record mode)

wedouglas 08-15-2005 11:32 AM

Should be pretty simple. All software is different, but it's usually nothing more than plug in and transfer. I suggest you read the help files in your software.

I just kept unplugging it and plugging it back in...nothing popping up. These wires are faulty a lot of the time? It's brand new...

Tried that too...

Thanks guys. My last resort - just called this computer tech that has come out to my place before and I'm going to see if he can come out this week. I'm tired of screwin' with it. Thanks for your help though!!

Cory W 08-15-2005 12:51 PM

If it is a good wire, then it is a good wire.

I have two camcorders, both digital, one HD. The wire has been a problem for me.

But hey, just trying to help, I probably am off base...
