Video Gurus Please HELP !! I'm going nuts
OK... I've been trying to chop up a big MPEG into small enough chunks to make movie galleries with. I've hunted for software to do this and have found one called VirtualDub. It seems to work real well and has lots of options.... BUT... I still can't get the size under about 700K even with a 5 or 6 second clip.
This software has a lot of options for compressing the file size like DivX Codec 4.02, DivX MPEG 4 Video Codec, Indeo video 5.04, and about 10 others. I have tried every possible combination of these things and the one time I got it below 400K it was the worst quality ever. So.... can you recommend either a method and a compressing sequence or another piece of software that will get the job done without me losing anymore of my hair. :ak47: |
Try converting it to ASF that should make it REALLY small in size ;)

Oh and before I forget:
http://www.davecentral.com Has some good editors to do it with and some are freeware ;) CC |
try this
frame rate:process every 3rd frame compression: divx codec 4.01, configuration -> output videostream 250kb/sec audio:fullprocessing, conversion, 8hz,8bit, mono |
Soul -
Thanks so much bro... You almost got me there. 2 things tho... First..you said use divx codec 4.01 and that isn't an option. Mine only allows 4.02 - Now, I have no idea what that means or if it even matters. Second... I am getting an error on the audio side when attempting to save the file. It says the requested conversion is not possible. Does this have something to do with the original file I am working with?? It seems as though the audio was what was keeping the size so big. I noticed while fucking with it that I could drastically drop the file size by removing the sound but I really didn't want to do that. Any other advice.... anyone, anyone.... Buehler..???? |
** bump **
come on guys.... someone must know something. Whoever can help me figure this out will get a link on my new movie site... how's that..?? All I want to do is take a long MPEG (about 2 minutes long) and make a handful of 10 second clips out of it... hopefully under 500K. |
hi again, i was out
no,it doesnt have any serious difference. The sound problem had appear to me in some cases. 1st try instead of divx to put MPEG4 low motion having data range 300 and keeping the rest parameters as said before. if nothing happens try again the options before and the new one with MPEG4 low motion and instead of audio:fullprocessing, conversion, 8hz,8bit, mono select audio:fullprocessing, compression and try the ones that have the smaller kb/sec like DSP True Speech and MPEG Layer 3 |
