how to stop content bots?

Anyone know a way to stop or slow down people who leech site pics/videos using offline downloaders and content bots? This is a real problem for me =(

Some of the bot programs identify themselves with their user agents. You can block based on that.. but really most of them can be set to just identify as Internet explorer.. so not too much you can really *easily* do to stop em if someone wants to download your whole site.

Plenty of scripts out there to stop/slow leeching. We have some ideas for a plug-in module to battle a whole bunch of problems facing adult sites, including leeching. Use the Poll in this thread and let me know what languages you use: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=501711

Is it on a paysite? You can set daily bandwidth limit or something.

I dont know about blocking manual downloaders, but you can stop bots like google from searching all threads on your forum with your metatags... if it is a big problem. Google alone "cost" me about 1GB per month, but I let it bot because its good for external traffic.

Anyway, alot of content on a forum is not good for sales, is it? :winkwink:
