Flash 8 & Dreamweaver 8 - The features which impress me most!

Neither are released yet, but after watching the tour for each of these products which I use frequently, I'm excited about it.

Flash 8:

There are a few key features in the new flash which will really boost interactive design a few steps up. You will be able to apply photoshop-like effects on layers like different blurs, drop shaddows, glow, gradient bevel and others + photoshop-like layer effects (blend modes) like darken, multiply, lighten, screen, etc... This upgrade doesn't seem like much because photoshop effects and such are commonly seen as "newbish", but if you know how to use them correctly especially in interactive design like flash - you'd know that the potential to develop some really awesome shit is there with these new features.

New font rendering which will eliminate the "fuzzy" text which is a common problem.

New video encoding which is a big plus, especially for future adult design.

Dreamweaver 8:

The best set of new features will be those for CSS. I knew it was only a matter of time before DW developed tools that are based around css structered layouts (the elimination of tables for layouts). This will help make the transition easier from using tables for layouts, to css for layouts.

I believe they will be released in studio8 on the 12th of september. 1 month.

c'mon now, are you people actually pretending to be uninterested? we're all nerds, express yourself to the fullest - no one will laugh at you.

yeah definately looks like it's going to be a good release

I'm hoping the GUI and tools will be more photoshop like... over time I wonder if they'll try to keep the macromedia look and feel or if they'll all go with the adobe approach.

I have a hard-on now. I can't wait!!!

I'm still using Dreamweaver 4, I was so unimpressed with MX/2004 that I uninstalled it after a few hours, there was just too much clutter. Hopefully they'll of fixed it this time round.

This looks great.....I was just about to finally upgrade from Dreamweaver MX to MX2004 the day they announced this, so glad I waited. The new coding toolbar looks great, as do the CSS improvements. The data sheet also mentions updated support for PHP5.

NaughtyRob 08-11-2005 02:26 PM

I'll stick with MX. I never even went to MX 2004 yet

JuiceMonkey 08-11-2005 03:15 PM

flashX will be great though
I'm sure it will be industry changing

Was going to say how the hell I managed to not noticed they were out...

Such a long wait tho, would be great to have them available now, so we could get more familiar with the new features before things start "kicking" back in September :(

Basic_man 08-13-2005 04:56 PM

Ho yeah ! So it's comming soon ? The CSS feature will be a big plus for every of us :thumbsup
