Ikea has a good thing going but they only serve a small part of the US. Ikea furniture fills a niche, albeit a niche for people who like poorly constructed, disposable furniture. Walmart while they skimp on frills with a lot of the products they carry, they don't skimp on quality as shitty products end up returned and unsellable. I'm sure that much of this goes back to the manufacturers as it being their fault though. Walmart likes to pass the buck whenever possible.

I like their store, they've got a good thing going. This furniture wouldn't look good in my house which is designed traditionally but it does look good.

Are you kidding? Wal-Mart's stores merchandise buyers are among the toughest in the retail business. You sell them goods that don't live up to their standards and they'll blacklist your ass.

On apparel for example they check the dye colors on every lot and if colors don't match exact to specs on the PO they won't accept the merchandise.

Even getting your foot in the door as a vendor for Wal-Mart is among the most rigorous and challenging processes in the industry.

Yeah I saw that documentary on CSPAN about Wal-Mart and it covered that process. Amazing what some guy from one of the most backwards assed states in the union was able to do with a couple of small stores.
