What are "real" muffins called in England?

I dunno, but I asked my friend's husband if I could have an English muffin one morning after babysitting for them, and he stared at me a moment and said I ought to be careful asking a man from Oxford if I can have an English muffin for breakfast.

I was scared to ask, lol.

It's not very hard to work out the difference. If you order a muffin with your coffee, you'll get a sweet one, if you order it with bacon and egg in it, you'll probably not get a skinny blueberry.
