So what does 100mbps with a couple of servers go for these days?

I'm interested to know what the going rates are these days.

Mid to high end servers and multi-homed tier one bandwidth only.

Spam away.

Snake Doctor 08-07-2005 07:45 PM

BTW forgot to mention that 100mbps needs to be uncapped. (i.e. we may use it all and then some)

sandman! 08-07-2005 07:47 PM

good bandwith is around $30 per mbs plus hardware.

so around $4000-$5000 depending on the hardware you need.

Doesn't look like you're multi-homed :(

Some screaming deals on your site though.

chaze 08-07-2005 08:31 PM

Multi hones will get you around $4000 but verio or cogent crap you can in for about $2000.

Let me know if you go the better route I can get you the best price with no over selling or catches.

pr0 08-07-2005 08:31 PM

level3/abovenet etc. b/w can be had for 20-25$ a meg

30 is outrageous

Not many companies seem to be willing to go under 30/meg. (At least not 30 per real meg....capped deals are different)

Maybe the prices change if you do 1gbps instead of 100mbps....I dunno.

chaze 08-07-2005 08:44 PM

For good bandwidth $27 a meg (100 meg commit) $300 for the servers.

Anything lower is probably a over sold or dirty.

That's a much different number than the $4000 you posted above for multi-homed.

not every host charges the same ammount and half the hosts that come up with incredible deals on premium bandwith push 50%+ out on cogent or other cheap stuff to keep pricing low.

I know a guy who has a rack in VA, multi homed level3 etc., and he can sell it at 23$ a meg & make a nice profit on a 100meg line.

Hosting companies artificially inflate prices. When you're doing large volume, charging $30 is an insult imo

$2300 for a 100 meg line is alot different than charging $23 per meg....on a capped 100mbps line you can realistically only do 70-75 megs....any more than that and your site will be slow/unreachable during peak times.

So 70 megs @ $2300 is almost $33 per meg.

thats why you find great deals on 100mbs single server setups no one wants thier shit to be slow at peak so on a 100mbs box your doing more like 70 peak or 60 on 95th or so.

zagi 08-07-2005 10:52 PM

Great support, fast connection, no downtime can run as high as $6500/month with Firewall/RAID/Clustering/Load Balancing/Disaster Recoverable

for uncapped 100 Mbps i'd say anything 1500-1800 + servers would be reasonable. depends on carriers mix tho

Ycaza 08-08-2005 12:36 AM

for my 15 peer tier 1 box 2400 plus the servers which can be as low as 100 each, No one Offers what we do. If you want cogent etc I guess you could do 14 or so but if you want quality, no one can match our peering.

No I sure didn't.

I spoke with your partner and she asked me some questions about which OS I wanted but I never got a setup email from you guys.

stevo 08-08-2005 12:45 AM

Check out phatservers.net, they gave me a pretty good deal on two 100mbps servers, service and support are excellent!

You should have mail

chaze 08-08-2005 12:54 AM

Good luck, just remember something that's too good to be true is, :2 cents:

abetech 08-08-2005 02:00 AM

Probably around 900-1000$ at hivelocity.com. I have a client that has a 50Mbps server there and it hits the cap constantly at 47Mbps. I really haven't found anyplace that beats them for unmanged servers.

SinisterStudios 08-08-2005 03:28 AM

If you want quality bandwith (not cogent or the verio crap) it will run you $25-$30 a meg. Guys around here just dont understand that to build a hosting company the right way costs alot of money. Routers, firewalls, fiber drops, etc.. all cost alot of money, believe me if i was to show what we spent on our cisco 6509 switches most would shit, let alone the HA Checkpoint Gig Firewalls, etc.. If you want a good reliable host you have to help pay for the high end equiptment they use to give you the bandwith and reliablity you desire. Look at Swiftwill, one of he best in the business, they charge $30 a meg and no one even questions the price. Reliablity is the key when your $$$ depends on uptime.

That said i can do a IBM x335 dual 2.4 Xeon ,2.5 gigs ram, 2 - 146 scsi drives, 100meg uncapped, tier1 bandwith for $3000 a month.
