How are the mosquitos where you live?

Are they bad?

Do you know of any place (especially in N America) where they are virtually nonexistant?

What about other bugs?

Here in Winnipeg the mosquitos have been bad this year. We've had west nile virus warnings all over the place, and 3 reported cases of it so far. The city has fogged for mosquitos at least 5 times so far this summer, and due to new eggs hatching it looks as though they will have to fog at least once more.

Yes, we still fog for mosquitos here. In fact, this particular summer the Province ordered the city to send out the fogging trucks due to the west nile threat.

How are they where you are?

Spunky 08-07-2005 05:35 PM

It actually isn't too bad..only been bit a few times

fusionx 08-07-2005 05:36 PM

They're quite freindly, really..

Not too bad this time of year.. earlier they sucked..

NaughtyRob 08-07-2005 05:37 PM

There are some here, but generally in Vegas not too many bugs.

JimmiDean 08-07-2005 05:39 PM

Ontario is bad in the evening this year

Odie 08-07-2005 05:40 PM

I am still itchin' from the bites I got while I was in Gimli:( never seen any that big in my life..and the damn horsefly bites didn't help me any either! thanks Sleazy for the bug bites!

tungsten 08-07-2005 05:41 PM

is that a ball sack?

smack 08-07-2005 05:43 PM

not to bad in pittsburgh. our summer has been relatively dry though.

hershie 08-07-2005 05:46 PM

You have got to have the worst infestation of mosquitos of any city on earth. I don't need screens on my windows in vancouver and haven't seen a mosquito in years (except camping).

jimmyf 08-07-2005 05:53 PM

Man those little shit's use 2 tear my white ass up when I lived in Texas..

Haven't had one bite me in years in California, got'em here but I've been lucky..

KRL 08-07-2005 05:57 PM

Seems like each year there are less mosquitos down here in south florida. They spray so much chemicals into the air and lakes its hard to imagine we'd have any.

I was in S Cal for a few weeks back in the summer of '82.... I don't recall seeing even one mosquito the whole time I was there.

It was awesome.

Some years it's not too bad here in Winnipeg actually. We have good years and bad, but when it gets bad it gets REALLY bad. At least in the city the spray melathion to take down the population, but try going camping during a bad year and they're as big as airplanes and attack in swarms. You have to be covered/slathered in repellant at all times.

I don't know what's worse for your health, the spray they use or bathing in repellant for three months.

reed_4 08-07-2005 08:07 PM

Mosquitos are deadly, particularly those dengue or malaria carrier.

Digibucks 08-07-2005 08:13 PM

i hope mosquitoes in our area are not those dengue carriers

Sleazy didn't slather your body with repellant lotion?

How negligent of him.

Tala 08-07-2005 08:25 PM

They seem to be quite healthy here since they've been feeding so well off me. :disgust

demented 08-07-2005 08:29 PM

They are VERY bad right where I live because I have a lake in my backyard. If you go around any body of water here, you're going to get eaten alive by them..

Fine thanks - Wish it was otherwise!

Dengue stats are up to around 8500 this year so far in Costa Rica, but only 6 cases of reinfection (the dangerous stage). The rainforest environment and rainy season does not help.

What ya doing with mosquitos in Winnipeg? It's obviously not cold enough :)

mardigras 08-07-2005 10:03 PM

I remember when I was little the trucks would ride by leaving a big white fog. That stuff worked. Nowdays the trucks have a more clear spray and the trucks fly by. Big waste, the guy could just as well be spraying a can of Off out the window.

They aren't too bad at my place, but at my aunt's a few miles north of me you can't go outside in the late afternoon without being attacked. When the street light comes on you can see their swarms.

1) Winnipeg was built on a swamp near the junction of two large rivers. Mosquito heaven right there.

2) Summer in Winnipeg can get very hot, and very humid at times.

We had a lot of rainfall throughout the spring, and have had some hot muggy days in the past month as well.

And our mosquitos have teeth and are on steroids due to their short life span here. :D

nofx 08-07-2005 10:41 PM

try living in the south

visit Louisiana during mosquito season

you will hate them with a passion

you cant even chill outside without thousands of the fuckers flying into your ear or trying to suck your blood

Sosa 08-07-2005 10:45 PM

usually just bad for a few hours at night. They sprayed not too long ago all throughout town for them so that helps a little.

badmunchkin 08-07-2005 10:46 PM

Don't move to FL - they outnumber the people here

not to mention the palmetto bugs (huge flying roaches)

Downtime 08-07-2005 10:47 PM

they're delicious here in chicago!

VeriSexy 08-07-2005 10:50 PM

So far one big one on the neck and small one on the back. The one of the neck was sore for 3 days :Oh crap

iwantchixx 08-08-2005 12:19 AM

Man,t hey're crazy where I love. I swear they should be considered the provincial bird. My back yard is FULL of them. I can't even enjoy my yard this time of year.

PixeLs 08-08-2005 01:03 AM

There is no mosquito inside our house. But there are lots of them outside.

je_rome 08-08-2005 01:17 AM

not too bad here fortunately!

cachondo 08-08-2005 02:56 AM

Here in summer always have a lot of "mosquitos".

OG LennyT 08-08-2005 02:59 AM

They were getting bad until the govt started charging fines to people with dirty pools

gangbangjoe 08-08-2005 03:03 AM

cool1 08-08-2005 06:45 AM

Hasn't been to bad here in the core area since the city fogged and got rid of the buffer zones.
Still getting bit once in awhile.

Vitasoy 08-08-2005 08:22 AM

Not that bad, plus we have mesh windows here

gecko 08-08-2005 08:22 AM

Last year was worst

LadyMischief 08-08-2005 08:25 AM

I've seen 5 so far this summer in Oakville, and they have been at the park. Notr eally a ton of mosquitos, but I'm getting very annoyed with the hornets everywhere.

Martin 08-08-2005 08:26 AM

little fucking bastards...

cherrylula 08-08-2005 08:36 AM

yeah there isn't enough stagnant water hanging around for them to live in here in So Cal.

In New Orleans they passed some sort of mosquito control years ago I was told because the politicians got tired of seeing the strippers all bit up in the clubs. TRUE STORY :1orglaugh

sickkittens 08-08-2005 08:39 AM

They're usually really bad over here but this year has been alright.

a fucking men to that, and they're also the size of small birds down here too. City Pest Control drives down my street every night spraying for mosquitoes and it doesn't help much if at all....

There's a skeeter somewhere in this house - now I'm on a mission to find and exterminate him. http://www.gofuckyourself.com/images.../hitit_sml.gif

_mC_ 08-08-2005 09:16 AM
