Canada's High Court Ends Ban On Private Health Insurance

Might as well switch to U.S. currency & buy some cowboy hats.

Finally i had a country i could visit with chill people, good weed, & relaxed civil liberties, & now corporate greed has infested your country from south of the border. :(

good
our health care system is a joke..
I've been in the hospital 5 times this year ( not personally looking after family ) if it wasn't for me being there they would have no service.
I literally tipped the nurses..

Good?

Lemme explain something.....

I got in a car wreck a couple months ago, took out both my knees (mafia style). Now lets say i had insurance because i was working at Starbucks, but i decided to leave starbucks & work for myself, get my own insurance. About a year later i have a motorcycle accident & land on my knee....it would be considered a pre-existing condition, & should the surgery cost me $30,000, its coming out of my pocket.

Now weight that against tipping $100 to a nurse.

YES GOOD

Let me explain something! My friend's mom might be DYING and has to wait 1.5yrs for an MRI to see what is wrong with her or go across the border to Buffalo pay $1000 and will get an MRI in 24 HOURS!

#2 $30,000 is FUCKING NOTHING! If it wasnt for free health care and the fuckin scum who abuse it to get a few extra bux in this country, taxes would be lower and you would save WAY MORE THAN $30,000 during your life so far

#3 Why doesnt the prime minister or any other high powered official / athlete use public health care and wait 13+ hours in the ER room jus to see what is wrong with him? Somehow they get their CAT scans/MRIs done in fuckin no time and are back to work in a few days.

You cannot be more wrong if you support the pathetic excuse of a health care system this country has, especially with its non english fuckin str8 of the boat staff that takes the TTC in their nurse uniforms!

the average wait time in the E.R. here in D.C. is 10+ hours for non life threatening emergencies....& life threatening is defined as a gun shot to the chest

Then DC is a shithole. I've never heard of anything like that before, ever.

Yes but I'm sure you can go somewhere else and pay to get better service which you cannot do in Canada.

Sly 08-07-2005 03:20 PM

Furthermore, what does having the OPTION of private health insurance matter to you? The burden on the public health system will be eased, allowing faster treatment to those that rely on it.

Sly 08-07-2005 03:21 PM

If people can and are willing to pay more for better treatment, why stop them? I would be extremely pissed if I couldn't buy better care. What's the purpose of working hard and making money if you can't utilize it when you feel its necessary?

Canada has private MRI clinics, for example: www.fraservalleymri.com

It doesn't bother me persay....what bothers me is the following

U.S. based pharmacutecal & medical companies will begin to exploit canada...And canadians are just gonna let it slide in the backdoor with the excuse of "well, if i can afford it, i want it"

Thats how we do things, & guess what, unless you're insanely rich...it sux balls

JuiceMonkey 08-07-2005 03:36 PM

they allowed private insurance
that doesn't mean they are getting rid of the rest..

There is going to be two tier health now.

My ex is from the states and she is paying $200K back from hospital bills.. so I do know where you're coming from.

I just think for the people who can afford it, there should be premium services available.

I wish we could offer the best service to everyone, but that isn't going to happen so this is the best alternative, making the lower tier better for the people who can't afford it, and the higher tier the best for people who can afford it.

It's a win-win situation.

cheers
