If so.. who is the band that the movie is about?

I know that it's "Steel Dragon" in the movie... but is it a made up band or is it a mock of a real band?

Motley Crue?

Well, I bought the soundtrack and all of the credit for the Steel Dragon songs goes to the Steel Dragons.

No joke. Even the credits in the movie refers to them.

That kinda spoils it all...

the lead singer came out as a gay men...


the funny part is that the leader singer was giving an interview to a heavy metal magazine and was asked... which celebrity he would like to have sex with and he replied HOWIE LONG... and came out of the closet...

Yep..and I think the show that talked about this might have been the "Behind the Story!"...can't recall if that's a MTV production or VHI..

In either case, this new lead singer is living his freaking dream.
Like the band in the movie, this guys band played cover songs of Judas Priest and I don't recall how but one of the other members from Judas Priest was at a show and saw this guy...and befor he knew it...he's the new lead signer! Go figure!

His voice is almost similiar to that of Rob Halford...scary actually!

Homo or not, Judas Priest rocks baby.

And talk about lead singer soundalikes, listen to Journey's new frontman, he sound exactly like Steve Perry and shit if he don't look like him too.

the character Mark Wahlberg plays is losely based on Ripper Owens who, as pointed out above, replacd Rob Halford in Judas Preist. Ripper worked at Staples and was in a Judas Priest cover band. Judas Priest even had a lawsuit against the movie, so some things were changed. The reason Steel Dragon is listed ni the credits and the soundtrack is that they actors actually performed the songs themselves. To get "into the roles" they also did some touring as Steel Dragon, but at the moment, I can't remember who they opened for.

I liked the movies, but it felt more like a chick flick than the typical rock and roll, party hard type movie I was expecting and have grown nostalgic for from my touring days....

Dude... gay clubs are friggin fun... i'm not quite comfortable enough to ever go by myself or with other guys.. but when my wife and her girlfriends wanna go... i'm out shakin it on the floor with the best of em ;-)

The co-ed bathrooms are the only thing that i find a bit odd... not for emotional/mental reasons.. but mostly cause drunk guys pee on the toilet seats.... i guess the girls just do the "hover squat" hahahaha

That movie rocked... won;t win any award, but reminded me of growing up... we;ll not relaly gowing up but of my younger years :)

Only good gay artist mentioned so far is Freddie Mercury, he atleast had some talent. :)
