what is better AMD or Pent4

Getting a new pc and wanted to know what is better fir using photoshop, dreamweaver etc.

Thanks for any help :thumbsup

EddiePulp 08-05-2005 06:00 PM

If you got the extra $$ get an intel.. I was always all for AMD... but a top of the line P4 kicks ass. Just make sure u dont get a celeron, suck for photoshop etc.

riddler 08-05-2005 06:01 PM

AMD if you are a bastard tweaker as for like over clocking etc, if you dont plan on over clocking and doing mods then intel all the fucking way, alot of people dont like intel cpu's but i have never had a problem with them, they are worth the extra money in my opinion..

czarina 08-05-2005 06:02 PM

Ok thanks anyone else

czarina 08-05-2005 06:03 PM

I dont know how to tweek the speeds, but I will learn. this pc I need to get as an emergency replacment, it had the AMD

beta-tester 08-05-2005 06:05 PM

Intel EMT64 are the best processors around :thumbsup
For example Intel 640 rocks!!

czarina 08-05-2005 06:07 PM

this is what this pc will come with

AMD Athlon? 64 processor 3400+;

iwantchixx 08-05-2005 06:07 PM

it's like asking which color is better, red or blue. Each have their advanatges and the new AMD production run spanks the hell out of the pentium chips but are still prone to heat.

Personally I'm sick of my computer causing heatwaves in my room so I'm going dual core pentium next time around.

czarina 08-05-2005 06:10 PM

Ok, so a cooling issue is ther.hmm. Will try to keep that in mind, as where we live there is no ac. We dont really need it, because it does not get above 85, but that would be just enough.

wedouglas 08-05-2005 06:11 PM

I've always prefered AMD. www.tomshardware.com or www.arstechnica.com for info and benchmarks.

that is the same processor i have in my main computer, it's fucking amazing. i'ev never compared the intels to it side by side though. i had heard that intels are a bit better for things like servers that need to run constantly, but for a home machine the AMD 64 does everything i need it to.

czarina 08-05-2005 07:12 PM

thank you guys!
I will be buying the new computer tomorrow, and your information will be very helpful!
Muah!

I have 5 boxes with AMD 64 3200 . no problem.

webcrawler 08-05-2005 08:01 PM

Always go for AMD and a good cooling system.

Gateway69 08-05-2005 09:29 PM

i just updated my home system to Asus A8n SLI mb running nforce4 chipset.. with a nvidia 7800 video card.. the AMD chip i have is a amd 64 4000 San Diego chip which if have good fans you can Overclock pretty well

anyhow system is rocking..

Kanon 08-06-2005 07:51 AM

At the moment, AMD is kicking Intel's ass all over the place in everything, there's no comparison (where as, 1-2 years ago Intel was ahead of the game).

AMD 64 dual core processors are fucking awesome. But to be honest, even though AMD is superior, you can't go wrong either way. Just make sure you get the line with 1MB of cache on the processor (IE, don't buy the "budget line", like Celeron) or it will cripple you.

Adult Site Traffic 08-06-2005 07:54 AM

I never had an AMD so I have to say P4. I always heard AMD was better for gaming applications and I don't game.
.

William-Xfactor 08-06-2005 08:10 AM

I wouldn?t change my Northwood P4 chips for anything.

AMD was always better suited to gamming, which I don?t do.

No idea about the newer Intel chips and don?t want to know either.

good luck.

JasonB 08-06-2005 08:46 AM

just got a new alienware with the new Pentium Extreme processor. kicks ass

Dalai lama 08-06-2005 08:48 AM

Go for the AMD :thumbsup

Sosa 08-06-2005 08:52 AM

Unless your familiar with tweaking shit around and messing with settings just get a Intel P4. Stay away from all that celeron shit.

Antonio 08-06-2005 09:07 AM

I've had both, honestly - the same fucking difference

Go with Intel IMO, I had some hardware compatibility issues once with my AMD

fuelcell 08-06-2005 10:19 AM

That's one of those, "you really need to ask?!" kinda questions. AMD smokes Intel chips pretty much across the board. There are some exceptions, like the lower cost (but lower powered) dual core chips Intel came out with are great for most people but the expensive AMD dual core chips are more powerful AND they are faster for "single core" applications which is pretty much everything out there.

Pentium chips consume more power and run hotter than AMD chips which are far more efficient. Except for Pentium M chips which are intended for laptops and there's not much in terms of boards out there to support them for desktop useage just yet. The Pentium Ms are better processors than P4s with great speed at lower wattages and far less heat output. It'll be nice to see them used more in desktops.

Intel's biggest advantage is offering huge discounts to sellers like Dell for using their entire line of chips exclusively - not creating superior chips.

Max Cannon 08-06-2005 10:52 AM

Get the Athlon 64 Fx, Intel p4 Prescott sucks

Morgan 08-06-2005 11:26 AM

Arent AMD chips just better for gaming?

Jace 08-06-2005 11:32 AM
