If it is not too deep (as in when you see the metal) You can try some compound with an orbital buffer. Try a product like Meguiars ScratchX for instance.

Visit a car detailing shop and see what they say.

That sucks royally :( Was it at home or elsewhere?

davethetruth 08-05-2005 10:44 AM

That fucking sucks so bad. If I ever saw someone key a car I'd end up being convicted of murder.

The reason these broke fuckers do it is because they know they're stupid, worthless, pieces of shit that will never be able to afford a car as nice as the one they're ruining.

FUCKERS

Yea you can mess up the (surrounding) paint if you do not know how to use it :) Take it to a detailing shop.

If its not that deep there is a good chance it can be buffed out. If not it shouldn't be that much to get fixed.

infecto 08-05-2005 12:53 PM

You know what else I hate... I park all by myself in a parking lot and some two bit shit who doesn't know how to park will park right next to me no more then a foot or two away making it damn hard to get in my car. My car is only a year old and already got two dents from people swinging their door too far. Every time someone parks too close to me I spit on their windshield.

I think that could be polished out. DO NOT use scratch compounds tho... those are only safe to use on micro scratches.

Take it to a detailer and they have liquids they can buff into it to "melt" the paint edges back together and they will restore the natural oils in the paint and buff it out nicely.

That front black mercedes sign someone tried to remove off my sl55, caused a crack in the glass. When I had it 'replaced' at the dealer, it cost $700 :321GFY

Nice ass car!

I knew some morons a few years ago, that removed about 90 of those a night and made beltbuckles!

Do the doors lift up in the air?

:winkwink:

that's not very good advice. Later model cars usually have a clear coat on it and doing this will simply remove this coating leaving a dull patch of paint.

If you're dead keen on repairing it yourself - then touch up paint is your only real option. Do you and yourself a favour and getthe car professionally fixed.

So long as the scratches aren't too deep it shouldn't cost too much to repair.

Exactly.

Yes, I've had a brand-new car keyed in the past.

arial 08-05-2005 04:51 PM

Talk to your dealership they may hook you up. I had a nasty scratch on my brand new car two weeks after I got it. The dealership buffed it and repainted it for me free of charge and no questions asked. Maybe yours will hook you up also.

cold_ice 08-05-2005 05:11 PM

If you run your finger nail acroos it and if it snag then you have to get it repainted. If your finger nail doesn't snag then you can have it buffed out. If you try to buff it yourself you can burn the paint, so don't do it unless you know how. I own a body shop just in case your wondering. Price to repaint depends on location of the scratch and labor rates.

That about right. What part of the car were the scratches on? Do they have to blend to an adjacent panel? If its around any mouldings make sure they are removed before they are recleared.

quiet 08-05-2005 05:20 PM

Vincent: Aw, man. You know what some fucker did the other day?
Lance: What?
Vincent: Fucking keyed it.
Lance: Oh, man, that's fucked up.
Vincent: Tell me about it. I had it in storage for three years, it was out for five days and some dickless piece of shit fucked with it.
Lance: They should be fucking killed. No trial, no jury, straight to execution.
Vincent: Boy, I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that asshole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it.
Lance: What a fucker!
Vincent: What's more chickenshit than fucking with a man's automobile? I mean, don't fuck with another man's vehicle.
Lance: You don't do it.
Vincent: It's just against the rules.

If you go thru your insurance all it will cost you is your deductible but you run a risk of your insurance going up. For $700 bucks its better to pay it yourself. A dealer would be a little more but not much more, but most dealers sux.

Who told you that? As long as you don't use insurance until next year you will be fine. Insurance companies wil put an X on your record if you use 2-3 times in a "timespan". Other than that, you are fine.
