Has anyone here ever applied for a patent on an idea they have had?

Yeah, some fucknut applied for a patent on Modelgig.com and idea that I had.

Why didn't you apply?...did he beat you to it?...or fuck you over?

Anybody have any insite on what it takes to apply?

get a patent lawyer. he'll go over the idea and determine if its already been done or a good idea. costs about 10k

Do know you better have some money 2 protect a patent.

It's not just getting a patent, got's 2 protect it and that means lawyers = money.

This is very true.
If it is a product for instance you can nearly guarentee that you will see knockoffs or ever so slight variations coming out of china and tiawan before you have even got your shit on the shelves.
Then even with a patent and money to protect it (also assuming you have patents in other countries) you will spend a great deal of time chasing others.
