How secure is your computer? Do you install security updates?

well. my comp has been lagging the last couple weeks so finally i managed to gather up some time today and work things out with it. i purchased mcafee and it found a couple of viruses which took me forever and a day to get fucking rid of, but i did it. i also had a nice little civilization of spyware programs living inside of my computer!!!

anyways, after fixing all that shit. i finally registered my copy of windows -- downloaded all the security updates and then i was searching bugtraq for any possible problems in any of the third party vendor software i own.

ow i'm up to date and my computer is running way faster now (i can actually get shit done, lol).

QUESTION: do you keep your sinful box of circuitry up to date with the latest upgrades and patches for ALL your software?

yes, all the time

I have McAffe, Spybot, and MS Antispyware running as constant services.

Thankfully so. My wife decided to start clicking icons and accidentally opened up OutlookExpress which I had configured with multiple email accounts but hadn't opened in a year or so. I came home to the computer being saved from 500+ viruses caught by the above. No telling how many others are plaguing the system, tho.

If you have WinXP, you can also speed things up by turning off some startup processes when you boot the machine. Just get a command prompt up and type in: msconfig
and then uncheck all the stuff you don't want in the "startup" tab.

Short answer's yes.

I will normally wait a day or two before installing them, and make sure others whom have installed them when they first come out do not have problems.

It doesn't happen so much on third party programs, or many others beyond micro$oft's supposed 'upgrades'.

yes on a daily basis. Norton + spysweeper + windows firewall. I'm sure there are better softwares out there but those are enough to keep this pc running on tops.

FF makes my internet browsing more safer... IE sucks with lots of loopholes
now i don't get any single spyware with regular updates of other programs
such as Trend Micro, Spybot Search and Destroy, spywareblaster and Adware.
