Question: Ankle Sprains...

My wife sprained her ankle around the middle of last week. Went to the doctor and they gave her a aircast and some Vic's. Well, it seems to still be hurting her pretty fucking bad and it's still swollen up. We just got back from the doc, they just gave her more pain medicine and told her to rest it..

Anyone who has sprained their ankle, how long did the pain and swelling last? I remember the last time I sprained mine, it only hurt real bad for maybe 2 or 3 days. Her's is hurting her so bad she can't even walk on it.. The doc's said it wasn't broken or anything.

Any advice? She's taking Vicoden and IB profrin.

Honestly it can take awhile specially if you do not stay the hell off of it. Have her pretty much lay down and or keep it elevated.

Could last atleast a week to 10 days..if they took xrays and no broken bones there isn't much they can do.

broken/sprained bone pain is the worst

how long will the swealing last? well it depends. your wife should really have to take it easy and just rest. she just need to take some pain reliever and wait till it heals.

Should be healed in 2 - 4 weeks depending on the severity. Rest, *Ice* the bitch, Compress with the cast and Elevate. Read up on some exercises or see a physical therapist to make sure she doesn't end up with a weak ankle that will turn over again and again.

Anti-Inflammatory is better than typical pain meds.

:2 cents:

I did about 6 weeks ago, and it is still swollen. go to www.webmd.com and read about some of the things there. She needs to take some time resting it, and then start to exercise it to build it back up. I still have a brace that I wear.

I guess so. I think, all she needs is some rest.

honestly, lie down and elevate the foot, ice it often... try not to put any weight on it, it'll just aggravate it and cause the swelling to stick around more.

Its much better to take a couple days off and just keep the foot up then to try and tackle all your daily shit with a twisted ankle...

I've only sprained my ankles a dozen times. Gotta love basketball and rugby, great sports ;)

Just ice it down 24-7, & keep taking the ibprofen....the vics will do nothing to help outside of making you feel good.

I just had a car accident recently, & it took a month & a half to stop swelling & hurting. I stuck to percocet, vicodin & ibprofen. Eventually it gets better.

The speed of recovery has alot to do with the state of health she's in.

this will sound stupid... but the time it usually takes for it to heal will mostly depend on how little she uses it. joint injuries like ankles, knees, wrists etc can hurt forever if you don't stop using them completely - until its healed completely. generally, people tend to push and the pain persists longer than necessary.

the bad thing about knee/ankle injuries is that if you continue walking - you not only aggrevate it, but you can often fuck up your other knee because you are walking wrong (limping)... until you are forced to stop walking completely. i have done that a couple times in my life.
