Fuckin' Rock Hit My Windshield 2 Days Ago and ...

It left a quarter size bullet like crack.

I woke up yesterday morning and headed out to a meeting and it was then cracking on both sides about 10 inches long. GREAT!

Drove over to the Lexus dealership because it had grown to over 14 inches while on the freeway.

1600 freakin' bucks for this bullshit and I have to wait to get reimbursed by my insurance company.

:Oh crap

Can't wait to pick the damn thing up, get on the plane tonight and head to Florida for Internext already!

I need a vacation!

:1orglaugh

WOW - that's the cost just for the windshield?

I have replaced my windsheild several times and each time it was only ~$300. But then again, I don't drive a Lexus.

wha wha wha 08-03-2005 01:15 PM

Did we learn not to drive behind large trucks on the freeway?

After Shock Media 08-03-2005 01:18 PM

Shouldnt of went to the dealer.
Hell the window repair places here fight for business and offer you cash to bring it in for repair for free. Basicly they cover the deductable on your insurance.

simple simon 08-03-2005 01:19 PM

dealers thrive on idiots like yourself, good work.

Windshield and installation.

The window has rain sensors ... if I would have opted for the heated control thing-a-ma bob system when I got the car - it would have cost over 2K

:helpme

No matter ... that's what insurance is for.

Just a pain in the ass that I have to deal with it right before leaving for Florida tonight.

Rain sensors?

That's what the gf is for...

HER: Honey, it's starting to rain. Turn on the wipers
ME: I know, I know

Your mother what?

Going to the Lexus dealer is hassle free and if it's not - they make it right. ESPECIALLY a Lexus dealer.

Luckily I can afford insurance along with my 70k car.

Moron.

Trolls are out in full force today, huh?

The car is 8 months old, I have insurance - no need to go aftermarket when there is almost no cost to me.

Why do I understand you soo well
And why does it seem like it's like my own life

Rui 08-03-2005 02:05 PM

The same shit happened to me...I was even going fast but strong wind brought the nice little stone towards my car window... :(

latinasojourn 08-03-2005 02:47 PM

the smart way to handle any rock chip etc is IMMEDIATELY the following day go buy the clear acrylic windshield repair kit and fix it yourself.

costs maybe 20 bucks. or as someone else said it's usually under a 100 bucks at any windshield place if you're not smart enough to read the simple directions.

NEVER wait until it develops a crack, because it usually will develop a crack due to vibration in the coming weeks.

buy the kit at walmart, etc.

then you won't lose the windshield.

did it on my MB a couple times and you can't even see where i fixed it.

EroticySteve 08-03-2005 02:52 PM

I"m not sure who your insurance company is but most have special glass coverage. My Mercedes dealer brings in a glass guy anyway, or sends the cars to them with the parts if they are special windshields like yours.

Fixing it yourself is an option but I don't have to pay for fixes or deductibles on repairs, nor do I have to shell out any cash, they take care of it all.

JuiceMonkey 08-03-2005 02:53 PM

you can melt them down if you catch them small enough

demented 08-03-2005 02:57 PM

That really sucks. I remember having to replace my windsheild in one of my first cars when I was a teenager. It cost way too much to have it done, so I bought the glass and installed it myself :)

When it comes to Mechanics it always costs too much, fucking thieves (and the original brands ones are the worse tho the quality of the work is normaly better)

iwantchixx 08-03-2005 04:35 PM

uhm, never go to a dealer for windshield replacement. You could have gotten that done at an auto glass place for $200.

i doubt some glass shop would do a good job on a special windshield like that.. plus he has good insurance (i hope) so its not a big deal

Mr Pheer 08-03-2005 04:55 PM

same shit happened to my new 4x4... only had it 48 hours, not even 75 miles on

rock hit the windshield, next day it was cracked. I'm getting it replaced for free thought because the customer service people didnt do a walk-around before handing me the keys

UniversalPassLorence 08-03-2005 04:57 PM

That has happened to me and it sucks
It chipped my paint on the hood too.

VeriSexy 08-03-2005 04:59 PM

Shit happens :Oh crap

Spunky 08-03-2005 05:02 PM

Shit..I thought paying a 150 deducatable was bad for windshield replacement

pornguy 08-03-2005 05:03 PM

You would have save a good 300+ by calling a glass company. they could have done the work at your home or office.

Mako 08-03-2005 05:05 PM

lol all these lightweights crying about J going to the dealer...get a life, fuck, it's only a few hundred bucks. You want some third party jackass installing god knows what quality of glass in your $60k car? One that has custom glass embedded with rain-sensors?

Which insurance is reimbursing you for anyway?

Some of you need to stop thinking small time, maybe that's what's holding you back from being "big time" in the rest of your life. No insult intended. Think big, be big.

tristan_D 08-03-2005 05:13 PM

bummer! that will just bring my blood pressure to astarl heights if that happens to me.

LOL

So true!

Plus, I don't have the time in my day right now to deal with BULLSHIT ...

It happened Monday.

Took it in Yesterday.

Today it's good as new!

DONE!

Tonight I'm heading to Florida to enjoy a much needed vacation and make WAY MORE $$$ than the $1600 that I'm getting reimbursed for!

I keep forgetting that $1600 is a lot of money to most people ... but I DO KNOW it's a lot for a windshield + installation.

Luckily I only had the rain sensor and not the one with the heated control thing-a-ma bob system too - that would have been over 2k.

BUT AGAIN - that's what insurance is for!

:2 cents:

IPK 08-03-2005 05:58 PM

my insurance fixed my winshield for free

they sent a van over and replaced it then left

reed_4 08-03-2005 07:54 PM

Shit happens. i have experienced that too. when somebody threw a stone right beside me when i was driving.
