Going offshore

Where would you move to and why?

DamageX 08-03-2005 04:40 AM

I'm thinking about it myself, would like to hear opinions of those who've moved or merely researched the possibility.

mardigras 08-03-2005 04:42 AM

Depends on what your purpose of going offshore is.

Joesho 08-03-2005 04:47 AM

if you are interested in Panama, we can help you

Chong 08-03-2005 04:57 AM

i've been thinking about this a little bit too, i was considering the cayman islands until i saw how bad the mosquitos are :(

DutchTeenCash 08-03-2005 05:07 AM

Are you gonna post a random question every minute to increase your postcount? If so lemme tell you that sucks big time

synapse 08-03-2005 05:11 AM

Netherlands, Holland generally or Sao Palo, Brazil maybe ... but I also have a very interesting chap from Capetown, South Africa which sounds beautiful and fairly liberal.

I kinda have a feeling youre talking bout something different, moving and moving offshore is something completely different...

No, I'm not fucking interested! I was asking about opinions about where to move. Did I say I was interested in Panama?

Beats the hell out of posting a random chick to increase your postcount. At least I show that I have something to say.

Pete-KT 08-03-2005 05:27 AM

I would buy my own island

well i didn't think i misread it but if i did i apologize ... 'moving offshore' and moving u and u'r family are definitely two different things, but IMHO the above list presents the best of both, particularly if you and DamageX are referring to our countries that are liberal to our industry and have a high standard of living (agreed that Sao Palo has its rough edges but has very affluent areas as well).

... oh and the telecommunications infrastructures in the above would also, admittedly at a premium, provide the necessary bandwidths for biz.

If that was a realistic option, I would too. I'm just a few bucks short at the moment though.

DamageX 08-03-2005 05:29 AM

Synapse, what's wrong with AUstralia?

The World will consist of between 250 to 300 smaller private artifical islands divided into four categories - private homes, estate homes, dream resorts, and community islands. Each island will range from 250,000 to 900,000 square feet in size, with 50 to 100 metres of water between each island. The development is to cover an area of 9 kilometers in length and 6 kilometers in width, surrounded by an oval shaped breakwater. The only means of transportation between the islands will be by marine transport.

... Each island will be sold to selected private developers and are expected to have pricing beginning at Dhs. 25 million (US$ 6.85 million)."

Touchy, aren't we? Is it OK to accuse others, but when you get (righfully) accused of the same thing, you start losing your professionalism and decide to boo-hoo-hoo and cut down on your money making possibilities? :)

That's really smart business. :1orglaugh

j/k :upsidedow

Actually it is good, very high standard of living, but a) the local consumer base is small thus a high cost of living, and b) politically allied a bit too close for comfort re our industry.

How about taxes? I know Holland, while fairly liberal, has high taxes and I hate them fucking socialist governments all over Europe. How's Australia when it comes to taxation?

Company tax is a flat 30% and personal tax can be as high as 49%, but it's easy to move money between companies, split income, and back-to-back consulting agreements so ya never pay more then 30%.

Good to see you have no fucking clue.

I suggest you stick to designs instead of politics.

30% in corporate AND 30% in personal, or 30% altogether?

Separately ... but, and i don't mean to teach u how to suck eggs, you run everything through the biz or as much as possible b4 u do a disbursement (pay-roll or franked profit) ... but this is 101 stuff u'r accountant i'm sure has more creative ways.

Don't get me wrong i don't endorse tax evasion at all but we all have a right to minimize as much as possible (legal). One of those great thing's we have here in AU is socialized health care, and it wasn't until my father inlaw had an accident earlier this year that i and my family got to see the real benefits of our high tax's at work. Now I don't begrudge a cent :thumbsup

I read in the Rob Report a few months ago that so long as u didn't try to set up u'r own statehood you were free of all laws on your island ... imagine that freedom for only $7 mill!! (now it was a throw away line, but even if it's only half true it's an amazing development).

Lensman i'll go 50/50 with u and give u naming right's ... GFY Land :thumbsup

My wife and a bunch of other people I know have made the move overseas one way or another and for all different reasons. I have a huge respect for people that can do that, like u said Dr. Dre it's a huge upheaval to your life. But then then there's also lots of reasons to make the move, money has typically been the last reason.

How much is 'mad loot' Dr Dre ? Always interested in what different peoples version of 'lots' is ?

tristan_D 08-03-2005 08:35 PM

Hi Damage. I started a new thread, and you may want to read some of it. It does not have all the info, but it may help you make some decisions.
