May be the reason Pitbulls get such a bad rap....

Check out this website and see if you can pick out the American Pitbull Terrier. I know most of you will SAY you did, but try and tell the truth. I have raised many wonderful Pits and if the right bloodlines and not too inbred, they make the most wonderful pets. Alot of people think they own a Pitbull and actually have a mutt....a nice mutt, but a mutt all the same :) Give it a shot...there are 25 dogs on the page, so give it a minute to load...

Like many other breeds there are good and bad dogs.It always tends to be how they were trained.

RyanL 08-01-2005 07:44 PM

took me 5 tries :)

Kevin2 08-01-2005 07:44 PM

I have had a few and I found it very difficult to find the correct one :1orglaugh

tony286 08-01-2005 07:45 PM

7 tries Im slow lol

dig420 08-01-2005 07:47 PM

This is about the 8th time this has been posted in the last month.

btw: if you're raising Pits, you're part of their problem, not the solution.

reynold 08-01-2005 07:47 PM

Thanks for the link. I'm really dying to buy one, though I'm not really knowledgeable about how to take good care of it.

candyflip 08-01-2005 07:50 PM

It was a toss up for me on two of them. Got it on the second try.

big yard, very secure, a LOT of attention, don't get rough with them. They'll turn out fine :)

they need plenty of socialization and training, but most generally they're naturally people-friendly.

chazer 08-01-2005 07:57 PM

some beautiful dogs on that page... almost bought a Dogue de Bordeaux awhile back but decided to get another Boxer instead

chadglni 08-01-2005 07:57 PM

American Pit Bull Terrier, first try. I should know as one tried to kill me.

dig420 08-01-2005 07:59 PM

You actually almost never see a Pit snarl. They don't give that kind of warning.

I don't think you understood. The problem is that they are mis-identified and alot of attacks that are blamed on Pits are actually other breeds. The solution isn't to get rid of all the Pitbulls....or not raising them. More dog bites happen from Dalmations every year than any other breed.

Resposible pet ownership would help alot in ALL breeds of dogs and making sure the animal you deside to get is not a victim of inbreeding, which tends to cause aggression in alot of breeds.

as long as they're putting thousands of Pits to sleep in shelters every single day of the week, I don't think the breed needs any further help from meth smokers breeding dogs in the backroom of their trailer.

You are assuming that they are all Pitbulls, they aren't. The over population of ALL dogs is a problem. I don't breed any dogs. I don't sell any dogs. I have been on both ends of a PitBull, ones that have adored me and one that wanted to eat my face off. We have also trained dogs for personal protection and also drug work and bombs for law enforcement (that was a few years back though). I LOVE animals, but lets be honest, there are ALOT of dogs that SHOULD be euthanized. If not for public safety, then for their own sake. The dogs that live on the streets, starving to death or the ones that have been fought their whole life. It really bothers me that so many animals are neglected and mistreated, but how many have any of you picked up off the street and taken into your own home to nurture, feed and love. I'm not talking about the ones that the animal shelter has cleaned up and 'tested'. I have done that...

I now live in Mexico and there is a terrible problem with dogs living on the streets. They don't get euthanized, they starve before your eyes. Believe me, they would be better off being put to sleep.

This whole argument could go on and on....ultimately, we are all responsible. I feed the local strays by giving them our left overs so they don't have to dig in the trash for scraps. If I could, I would spay and neuter each and every one.....

WebTitan 08-01-2005 08:50 PM

got it on the second try

dig420 08-01-2005 08:52 PM

I know what I see. I got my Pit from a shelter in LA country and you can go in any shelter in LA and 80% of the dogs are Pits raised by 'breeders' whose other hobbies include smoking crank and beating their wife.

You said you were a breeder, now you say you're not. Whatever. The point is if you want a Pit stay away from breeders. They're almost all total scumbags, don't encourage or support them because the dogs in the shelter need you far worse than that dope fiend needs another dime bag, and most of them are fine dogs looking for a good home.

aflex 08-01-2005 09:24 PM

theres tons of "underground" breeding with pits too.. all types of bloodlines that people mix to get a specific body build/temper..

my friend has a "Jeep" pit mixed with some other variant.. to an extent, it is interesting.

I have never said I was a breeder...I have never ever breed a dog. Period. I said I have raised some Pits and that is all I have said. Most of the dogs in shelters are just called Pits and are actually just mutts that look like Pits. They are all lumped into one category and it's just too bad. The breeders you are referring to are not breeders, but puppy mills, which should be avoided at all costs. The actual breed of American Pitbull Terrier is an established well defined breed that is recognised by many kanine registries. Most of the dogs that are in the hands of crank smokers that beat their wives are probably not from well defined bloodlines in the first place. They are inbred to get as many pups as possible and are genetically predisposed to all sorts of conditions, including aggression due to inbreeding.

I am in no way saying not to adopt a dog from a pound, but you best be careful at best. If it truly is a Pitbull that was bred for aggression, you may not have trouble immeadiatly. Luckily, most 'Pitbulls' from shelters are in fact not Pitbulls.

galleryseek 08-01-2005 10:16 PM

pitbulls are ugly as fuck. almost as ugly as pugs.

get a nice looking dog like a golden retriever or a syberian husky.

Agreed. I don't know the exact figure but it's roughly 500 dogs a day are put to sleep everyday in los angeles. IMHO dog breeding sould be illegal, or at least require some kind of special permit. There is just no need for it.

I think that would be a great idea to have breeders have to get a special permit. ALL breeders, not just those of Pitbulls....

exactly, if anyone bothered to spend time looking they have rescue organizations for pretty much any breed of dog you are looking for all over the US. Unless you are looking for a chihuahua in alaska you should be able to find a dog of the breed you want and in the age you want within a hundred miles of where you live.

PixeLs 08-01-2005 10:35 PM

They are nice pets, though taking care for them requires enough time and resources from you.

xfalmp 08-01-2005 10:50 PM

Got it on the 6th try. :(

I believe there are no bad dogs, just bad or unexperienced dog owners.
