Pot Seed Sales and Illegal Guns - The Canadian Juxtaposition

So the US wants Marc Emery's ass because he mails pot seeds to Americans.

Selling pot seeds is such a trivial matter up here, that Marc was ignored. If he was convicted in Canada, the chance of him doing jail time is minimal. In the US he would face a minimum 10 year sentence.

Extradition is a political issue. Canadian courts will not extradite when the sentences are so disparate. But Bush's puppeteers want to keep going after drug crimes. regardless of how petty. They may threaten trade sanctions, and our PM is too weak to cut off oil exports in retaliation.

In contrast, the use of guns in crimes in Toronto is double what it was last year. Still low by US standards, but alarming to us. The guns are coming from the US. Smuggling guns is easy. The smugglers are business people who look respectible.

Congress just passed a law that shields US gun manufacturers from lawsuits, in a way that no other manufacturer is protected. Seems just about anyone in the US can buy a gun, and it can just disappear. The Senate is expected to pass the law in the next week or so.

Americans don't understand why Canadians think of you as we do.

Curious.

Many americans don't care about the freedoms they are losing, as long as you don't touch their guns.

That Marc Emery is a strange duck. I remember when he sparked up a joint on the parliament hill steps. I met him back when he was working in the City Lights book store in London years ago. Looked like he was stoned even way back then.

:winkwink:

Just proves that you can run a successful biz and make huge money while being stoned 24/7

Emery has enough cash to get into a legal war over is extradition to the U.S. With the appeals, it will take years before a decision on his extradition is made. Meanwhile, the American authorities that are after him might decide to leave him alone if he commits to stop shipping to the U.S.

I take this case very seriously considering they want to extradite him for selling illegal goods online to US customers.

If it sticks we could quite possibly be targeted with the same laws to be prosecuted for 2257 violations. I realise there is a huge diferance between porn and pot, but how do you think Bush and his chronies see the two apart?

I'm detecting a hint of sarcasm..and I was imagining my shotgun going up against a RPG, they would be a glorious battle.

But don't get me wrong, guns are cool too. But it would nice if I could buy a fuckin SEED without getting hassled by the government. I'm hearing that all the progress we made in the 90's with marijuana law reform has pretty much been shit away - the US is doing like 10x the weed busts that it was doing a decade ago.

i wonder what's with guns.. maybe because it signifies strength?
